I am terrified that in a few months, America will become the home to concentration camps and forced relocations the likes of which the world has not known since WWII. What are we as a country going to do, when cameras are rolling, as jack booted things with clubs and masks on rip a baby from its struggling, wailing mothers arms, and beat her about her bloodied head?
That image, in some form or another, is coming to your TV screen and your tik tok videos sometime in 2025.
Do you think Americas are going to take to the streets to try and stop drumpf's Gestapo? Will they form human chains to protect the innocent?
Will blue start governors deploy their national guards? Governor Pritzker has already pretty much said he won't let drumpf take away the freedoms of the people of Illinois. How far does that go? https://www.sj-r.com/story/news/state/2024/11/08/pritzker-warns-trump-you-come-for-my-people-you-come-through-me/76119550007/
One thing is for sure. There will be some form of resistance to this, and Bannan/drumpf/Miller have had 4 years to prepare for this day, and they will have already have predicted what forms resistance will come in, and what they intend to do about. They will be ready for, and probably even craving a fight. The more they can divide the country, the stronger they will become.
I don't see the courts doing much to stop this. Oh, someone will sue to stop it, some Federal judge will put an injunction in place. And drumpf will just ignore it, since SCOTUS has pretty much said the courts cannot contain drumpf. They may rule against him a year later, but by the time they do he will have long since accomplished his goals, and their own immunity ruling will undermine any efforts SCOTUS may take to slow him down. You know the old phrase, "It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission,"? Well, drumpf has preemptively been given BOTH by SCOTUS.
If anyone has any suggestions what we all can do to help stop this, I'm listening... I'm already heartbroken for the families and communities that will be destroyed by this.

And even if they do protest, Trump will have them arrested.
And frankly I don't see Trump spending huge amounts of money on this project.
He is in it for the grift, and the money will go into his and his pals pockets.

Actually, I wouldn't doubt that they will say they are better off that way.
Then they will complain that we taxpayers are paying for their food and housing and make them compensate the Merican people somehow. Maybe work, maybe organ donation, something fun like that.

Seeing how bad this would be for business, I think this might end up like his wall. I do believe, though, that Stephen Miller will think of new and creative ways to torture people coming across the border.

(18,211 posts)During the war there were about 12,000 German Americans interned in camps mostly in Georgia and Utah. This was part of the Alien Enemies Act signed by FDR. A small number of Italians were also interned. Obviously this was not on the scale of Japanese internment camps, but it did happen.

(409 posts)and if it was it was on page 12. Yes newspapers used to be that big in those days. the camps were all located in the desert and in rural areas. The people that saw it on a large scale like in say Los Angeles and Seattle either noticed and didn't care that the Japanese neighborhood and businesses were gone or they justified it in their minds that those Japanese American citizens were actually a threat.

Americans don't get up in arms about our current prison and tantamount slave labor system so why would they do it then?

(13,648 posts)Mom was friend with the Takai siblings in Jr. High school and high school.
She says at the time she knew something happened to them, but had no idea why. Until a neighbor, her surrogate mom after grandmother died, told her that too many people got crazy with fear, and the government couldn't stop them. So they put the Japanese away until the war was over. Mom told her then it didn't make sense, and she still says that to this very day.
I say the same thing. It doesn't make sense that a lot of people willingly give up their damn minds to some nebulous fear and scapegoat a group of people who have nothing to do with any of the real problems that are occuring. It makes no sense to follow trolls who promise a quick solution to your problems, especially while you're watching them selling off your neighbor's stuff after driving them away as undesirables and potential criminals.

Retail stores will be unstocked.
Landlords will lose tenants.
Grandma, grandpa, and children will be forced to take empty jobs because their income will plummet from SS cuts and government support ending. This is defacto slave labor.
Will Governors respond? Will the mass of workers strike? Output could fall drastically. Consumption too. This will be like jumping INTO 1932 with a fascist response from government.

1.At this stage of a Fascist takeover there are No mass deportations. Individuals will be harassed by local neo-Nazis and nasty MAGAs, and militia-types. This is sometimes called throwing red meat to the mad dogs. These are mini Reign of Terror events , like Kristallnacht in Nazi Germany
2. This is a good time to educate ourselves about our state and local economy and its dependence upon undocumented immigrants. One of the main duties of every governor is to recruit big business to keep people working. They have the statistics of where all the workers are, both citizen wind non-citizens , documented and undocumented.
They not only know their workforce, and its composition, and where the workers are available throughout the state; they also know there will be hell to pay if they disrupt the workings of those big businesses and industries for even a few days. The broiler-fryer chicken industry has very tight schedules from raising the chickens to processing to shipping all over the world. A mass deportation of the undocumented workers who do the processing can destroy the companies, the states economy , and a governors political career in a matter of weeks.
I will post more on this 2nd point separately. But for now we need to let these industries and big employers speak out. If they dont its a pretty good indication they have been reassured privately that there are no imminent mass deportations coming pon Day I of the regime.

(1,092 posts)Foreign countries are not going to allow millions of people who left years ago to suddenly return, and it's not like they can all just be shoved across the Mexican border. So the illegal immigrant detention camps will be turned toward slave labor for all the fascist-supporting companies. The Supreme Court long ago agreed that criminal prisoners can be forced to perform labor for basically slave wages.
And when the immigrant prisoners start to die off from horrible living conditions, the fascist billionaire CEOs are not going to want to give up on their hugely profitable free labor, so they'll need to find other undesirable groups of people in our country to refill the camps...

(4,630 posts)Red states will not only deploy NG, they have thousands of MAGAts ready to be deputized inauguration day.
My husband asked this morning if I thought any media would post pictures of bodies (including children) being picked apart by scavengers hung up on razor wire in the river.
No I do not.
As a Native American, what I expect are bounties on people. Bounties are cheaper than trains, camps and ovens and you don't need to hire extra people.
Review the history of the American Bounty System if you have any questions.

(2,381 posts)the kind of stuff that has normal people scared shitless right now. There will be no "concentration camps".
I believe there will be deportations ramping up though. Since we know there aren't enough resources to do what he said, they will probably start with the worst, and let's face it, there are people that shouldn't be here freely roaming about (or anywhere else for that matter).
I also expect that a good number of them will leave on their own, mainly those who are actual criminals who crossed the border illegally.
I do wonder how they plan on figuring out who is an actual criminal and who isn't. Not all will be obvious, and a lot of innocent immigrants will get caught up in this.
