Oh my! MSNBC Viewership Drops by Half in Days After Trump Victory

MSNBC’s rating domination was short-lived: After beating CNN on its election night coverage for the first time in network history, the news network owned by NBCUniversal is now bleeding viewers in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory.

On election night, MSNBC scored 6 million viewers compared to CNN’s 5.1 million. But in the days after the election, the network’s total day ratings fell to 808,000 with a 90,000 in the coveted 25-to-54 year old demo, according to Nielsen.

Good luck to all of you who want to continue fighting.
But this was my last go around. I’m too old, depressed and disenchanted.

For the few days after the election, it seemed every time I turned on MSNBC, they were discussing who Agent Orange would have in his cabinet and white house staff. I have not wanted to listen to much of anything in terms of post-election post-mortems. Too painful. Some tangentially related podcasts, yes, but nothing directed to the election and what is to come. I am only now reading more--mainly about views outside the US and listening to some podcasts that are trying to lay out what can be done.

MSNBC and CNN will lose viewership, but I think some may find there way back. Many, though are going to find they can't afford the cable or streaming costs. Very soon. I'm cutting my only way of seeing much of it (YouTube TV) after college football season. I just can't justify the cost after that and college football, even if my team loses, is my diversion.

I was planning to watch on Election Night, but my family were too jumpy, so we did other things. I just occasionally read updates on AP on my phone.

I haven't watched ANY news since then. I've been reading the news, and I'm working on a Chrome plugin that uses AI to identify Trump-associated pictures and replaces them with something else. I'm finetuning a news aggregator, too. There are stories I want to see and I need to know about, but the steady stream of low level Trumpy bullshit that doesn't require my attention will be filtered out.

I'm a little sad for the lost revenue to shows like Lawrence or Rachel. If I tune in to anything it'll be them. But other than that, no. I also unsubbed a month or so ago from WaPo and NYT. I still have The Atlantic.

59. Economic Consequences
Tue Nov 12, 2024, 01:37 PM
Nov 12

The Resistance starts NOW!
More resistance ideas!
Elections have consequences…economic consequences. We went out for brunch at one of our favorite restaurants this morning. I walked up to the manager’s desk and said, “I want a booth for two…and I don’t want a server who voted for Trump.” She stared at me for a few seconds, smiled, and said, “Okay!” We had a delicious brunch with a cheerful server.
We can do this! We are customers and can decide where we spend our money. There are some categories of services that many communities have several options for us as customers. These include:
Restaurants: Tell the hostess or manager that you want a server who did not vote for Trump. If that person says something to the effect “We don’t talk politics, so I don’t know.” Wait until you are seated and ask the server if they voted for Trump. If the answer is “Yes” or there is hemming and hawing around, go back to the manager and say, I want a server who did not vote for Trump or I am leaving.”
Hair Stylists/Barbers: Ask the direct question of the manager or hair stylist. If the salon cannot provide you with a stylist who did not vote for Trump, tell the manager that you are taking your business elsewhere.
Dental hygienist: When you call to make an appointment, say you want a hygienist who did not vote for Trump. If you get any hassle, say that you are taking your business elsewhere.
Dentists: In my shopping community, there are six dental practices within walking distance of each other. I am under contract with my current dentist for an expensive Invisalign process, so I am stuck with that. However, I will ask the Invisalign Tech if she voted for Trump and when I need my teeth cleaned, I will ask for a nonTrumpster hygienist. If they don’t have one, I will go to one of the other practices to get my teeth cleaned. I have been thinking about trying one of the other practices, so a cleaning is a good introduction to a new dentist.
When you opt to not do business somewhere, always explain to the manager why you are taking your business elsewhere.

and haven't turned it in since (same with CNN). I feel that they wrongly forced out Biden, harped on things about Harris like "she never does interviews" when she was trying to get her campaign started, unfairly described Trump's debate performance against Biden as "winning" when all Trump did was lie, didn't challenge him on the fact that he wouldn't do a second debate with Harris, and never once pressed him on his execrable record in office when he was President. They jumped on Biden and Harris about inflation but never once challenged Trump on how inflation was a result of the post-pandemic economy that he helped create.

They normalize Trump and never once brought up his record. Not once!

I could stand them in the run up to the election, but I think there is culpability with the media and his election, so I am just reading news now. I don't ever want to see Trump's face again.

Their willful blind eye to their own role is a huge turn off, too.

They haven't failed us Rachel, Nicole, Ali, Lawrence, Joy, Rev, Chris...I can't think of them all, they never failed to give it to us straight. I do not think we should bail on them just because the MAGAs want us to. Nothing would give Trump more pleasure. It is sickening to hear so many of us turning our backs on people who had our backs. I guess fear is a great motivator after all.

As for me, I will continue to watch MSNBC when I can stand watching any new on cable or TV. I just don't see how this Trump administration won't blow us all up. The appointments he is promising are the worst in our history. Mike Huckabee will be a pancake for Bibi. This was the most horrible appointment of all after the Border czar announcement.

Enjoying music, art&craft videos, sci fi podcasts, volunteer work. Yup, burying my head in the sand.

Come to Washington DC on Jan. 18 for the big march. Hopefully it won't be too cold.

Got an internal antenna for basic over the air stations. Have public TV on mostly.
Not sorry.

Anything they opine is probably not as bad as what will be.
I’m old, but this election has made me FEEL old.
The US….so far from what I thought it might be in 1970 when I got to voting age.
I believed the whole schtick.
Even in gawd we trust.
All that is gone. Strangled out of me from Reagan on.

When Viktor Orban came into office, he sued the media until they did not have money left. Then Viktor's buddies bought the groups for pennies on the dollar. Voila, no more free press. I am sure someone will buy them up and they will wonder what happened. They did not think far enough ahead. At least they had their horse race! Hope that keeps them warm at night.

Unless I’m living in San Miguel de Allende by then

And I look forward to life without goddam Progressive and Liberty Mutual commercials.

I no longer tolerate any of the daytime hosts... and I can do without Kornacki and Lawrence and even Rachael. I like Nicole. I sure in the hell don't need a parade of hosts telling me that Kamala didn't listen to Black Men enough or Latino Men enough.

I think I know what the issue was with both of those groups.

for awhile. I cancelled by Sling account. I only used it for MSNBC.
I didn't watch news for a while either during the early trump years. People will eventually go back. Inevitably, when the shit show starts, people will go back.

This is what Fox feared -viewership went down so they went in hard on the big lie to keep viewers. If they had just weathered the storm for a few weeks or a few months, the viewership #s would have returned, but the greed could not let that happen. I doubt we would be here today if they had not gone in on the big lie.

Can't do it.

So, I am currently streaming all of Star Trek:TNG, as well as watching Full Metal Alchemist, any Godzilla I can find, and the like. I am not watching any of them sanewashing and/or excusing the stupidity we all saw at the ballot box. Not from us, or people who are like us, that think. But the ones who voted for shitstain.

watching any of them, any channels etc. for the most part. If I do I often have the sound off. I can't watch these people without yelling at the tv after what they have done. They are responsible for this in large part and they are doing it all over again. Pretending a criminally insane psycho is normal... I refuse to be abused by them and him and his band of loonies anymore and will avoid it as much as possible.

All with a smile on their face while the country as we knew it, and any shred of integrity have vanished for the most part. Some are ok such as NW and some others.

I am amazed they think anyone wants to watch this shit show a second time, but I guess some people still do. I have to protect myself.

I watch some local news, news online and mostly old tv shows. We don't have netflix so it's limited what I can see. I binge watch free old tv shows on amazon too sometimes.

and his idiotic pending appointments. What are we supposed to do with that and where the fuck was this energy during the run up to the election?

MSNBC has some quality journalists and anchors that did a great job of reporting what was at stake. Unfortunately, I'm done with all of them for the time being.

You don't get to profit off of my pain again. You will not get hours upon hours of doom watching from me again. If that's what CNN, the NYT and others were expecting when they sane washed trump through Election Day, then sorry guys, you miscalculated. I'm done.

The only politically themed stuff I can stomach right now are the instant karma / FAFO videos but that's about it.
