And he also suggests what a better alternative would have been.

3. The core problem...
Tue Nov 12, 2024, 01:48 PM
Nov 12

...is massive concentrations of global wealth, unchecked Oligarchy worldwide, siloed propaganda systems run by the tech-bros, and the reality (inconvenient truth) of climate collapse. The last is the most important as it is a real constraint, a hard stop on our collective delusion.

This slow moving train wreck was put in place 50 years ago as the right wing corporate capital response to the threat of the 60's liberation movements. It is not an accident. It was a coup.

BTW I saw this talk months ago and was deeply moved.

I think where we have our heads in the sand is our inability to realize this was a very long time in coming and there is no fix.

We will lurch between extremes and collapse under our own hubris.

We have never been "exceptional". We have been extremely lucky. And that luck is coming to an end.

And maybe we all deserve it.

Nature bats last...

4. That clown lost me when he got to blaming

Social Security for all the problems. It took him a while to warm up to it that one.

Most people get less than 2k a month.

Really honest to God fuck that guy. He hasn't got any answers.

7. Yeah I'm with you on that one but I don't think that's why they're angry

Social Security has been stolen from by the Republicans starting with Bush.

His point though was that Republicans created a problem yes and both parties are getting blamed for it because neither has fixed the problem that the Republicans have created.

9. I can understand the part about the cost of housing

And that has a lot to do with the post recession discovery that housing is a major investment opportunity by Wall Street.

10. My SS statement
Tue Nov 12, 2024, 02:07 PM
Nov 12

has me at $3,222/month, and I still have 5 years to go. (If I retire early, which I won't do. I love my job)

So for the ages of of these younger voters, it'll likely be higher than that by fair amount.

Chance and it certainly isn't $3300. Younger people will have everything pushed farther and farther out. Almost no one waits until they are seventy to get their maximum.

15. This. Honestly, any of these "explanations" that does not focus on the impact of the lies propagated on social media
Tue Nov 12, 2024, 02:37 PM

and the impact of intentionally (or just plain ignorant) "influencers" spewing bullshit has nothing to offer in terms of explanation, IMO.

That these disturbing trends had been stopped and many were reversed under 4 years of Biden.

6. Perhaps if they taught history

The republicans own this. The democrats come in and try to clean up the mess and can only take half steps because we are rarely in charge of the presidency ,senate and the house. Don’t get me started on a corrupt Supreme Court. You then vote for the people who caused the problem.

8. How do you convince someone who is both angry & misinformed
Tue Nov 12, 2024, 01:59 PM

They're going to hear any explanation as just another excuse. We got to have an answer for this or it's just going to continue

13. If you don't want to learn
Tue Nov 12, 2024, 02:14 PM
Nov 12

And you want the cliff notes version of history no one can help you. You will marinate in your anger and lash out at the wrong people. There’s a lot of misinformation out there, many are listening to friends who are as misinformed as they are. We have unfettered access to information and some very bad people (Elon ,Zuckerberg). I have no idea how this will end. I do not have a lot of hope this will end well.

11. 2024 was a low voter turnout win for trump.
Tue Nov 12, 2024, 02:09 PM
Nov 12

That means about 9 million fewer people voted in 2024, than they did in 2020.
Our national voting population grows every 4 years, yet there really were no more voters added.

So any theories of any group of voters not liking Democrats, can be thrown in the toilet!
Our party is on the upswing for 2026!

14. Geez, what does that say about young voters?
Tue Nov 12, 2024, 02:18 PM

There are so many negative adjectives to choose from:

stupid, uninformed, mentally deranged, unwilling to
face reality, yadayadayada

Imagine the promise they could have if they'd only
organize and work for the good of the nation and
humanity, instead of making it worse.

Humanity as a species is a huge failure, and there is
no one group or type excepted.
