Former U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, a New York Republican who resigned from Congress following a tax fraud conviction, is paralyzed from the chest down after being thrown from a horse during a polo tournament, according to friends who are raising funds to pay for the ex-lawmaker's medical care.
Grimm, 54, suffered the devastating injury in September and is now being treated at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where the late actor Christopher Reeve was treated after a similar equestrian accident in 1995, according to Vincent Ignizio, a friend of Grimm's who is a former New York City Council member.
Grimm had been an avid polo player for years, Ignizio said. "It was a passion of his and he suffered a tragic accident at the end of September," said Ignizio, who has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for Grimm's medical care.
"Through the grace of God and the amazing medical teams who have helped him, Mr. Grimm has miraculously thread the needle to survive," the GoFundMe accounts says. "Yet, his ongoing care and the treatment to walk again will cost millions of dollars."

Ironic that when he was in congress he voted AGAINST the ACA.

And in case you'd forgotten:
A Republican representative from Staten Island physically threatened a local reporter after Tuesdays State of the Union address, according to the news station. The reporter, from New York Citys local NY-1, attempted to ask Rep. Michael Grimm about allegations of campaign finance misconduct.
Michael Scotto, a former MSNBC producer, turns to the camera and reports that Grimm does not want to talk about some of the allegations concerning his campaign finances, we wanted to get him on camera talking about that, but he as you saw refused to talk about that.
Grimm then appears back on camera, berating the reporter and getting in his face. "Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I'll throw you off this f------ balcony, Grimm tells the reporter, according to a transcript released by the station. The reporter persists, telling him its a valid question.
"No, no, you're not man enough, you're not man enough. I'll break you in half. Like a boy, Grimm says.

(8,474 posts)How many Gopper reps have been abusive to folks over the years. Too many to name but a greatest hits would be fun.

(17,639 posts)This might sound a little cruel, but I'm never going to get thrown from a horse while playing polo. I'm never going to die in a helicopter crash. I'm not going to break my leg sking. I'm not going to break my wrist water sking. I'm not going to crash my Ferrari and injure or kill myself. I'm not going to die during plastic surgery.
It's because I'm poor, and have never and will never do any of those things.

(409 posts)in fact I hope he is in pain. I'd imagine being thrown from the balcony of the US Capitol would result in paralysis as well. Sucks to be you Michael Grimm. I may give the GoFundMe a penny so that I can tell him how i feel.
