I live in a super red area of NJ. The amount of Trump signs displayed was disgusting. I thought that they would throw a block party celebration when he won. But Wednesday morning every single sign and flag was gone.
I wondered why and then I found out. One of my least MAGA neighbors said they were are expecting him to lose and gearing up for a fight. But when he won, they were afraid they were going to be attacked and terrorized by us.
They believe we're every bit as deplorable, angry, bitter and vitriolic as they are.
They're shocked we're not rioting in the street and burning down their houses.
Go figure.

(16,561 posts)were really projecting as to what they had been doing or attempting since 2000.
If we would just listen to what they are accusing the Democrats of doing we would know what they are doing.

(58,324 posts)But interesting, at the end of the day they are supreme cowards.
They were spoiling for a fight on their terms.
But with the thought of the tables turned they hide like the cowards they are.

(333 posts)its the only reason they voted for him. I'm convinced that for a huge chunk that was it. They don't give a rats ass about policy this or economy that. They thought he was the best bet to inflict pain on people they hate.

VERY proud and defiant LIBERAL here. I bow to NO ONE. And ESPECIALLY not to that orange guy.
And I WILL NOT be dissed or dismissed by use of the misbegotten label lib. The proper word is LIBERAL. Period.

(4,865 posts)Those people have been talked into actually seeing us as the violent enemy. Good grief, what has become of our country? Yes, Im deeply sad and angry about the election, but I wouldnt dream of attacking people who voted republican. I still smile at people I pass on the sidewalk or out shopping. I dont know what their politics are. I simply cant find it in myself to hate people just because. Its really very sad.

(15,158 posts)They were told over and over again, and still believe that entire cities were burned to the ground by Black Lives Matter protesters. My father was seriously worried that if Trump won in 2020, Antifa was going to be rampaging in his neighborhood - and he lived in The Villages!
It doesn't help that lots of popular and influential Christian leaders have told their followers that we're in league with Satan and want to destroy Christianity. The IRS doesn't enforce the Johnson Amendment, so preachers had no fear of losing their tax-exempt status for urging their flocks to vote for Trump.

Elections have consequences
economic consequences. We went out for brunch at one of our favorite restaurants this morning. I walked up to the managers desk and said, I want a booth for two
and I dont want a server who voted for Trump. She stared at me for a few seconds, smiled, and said, Okay! We had a delicious brunch with a cheerful server.
We can do this! We are customers and can decide where we spend our money. There are some categories of services that many communities have several options for us as customers. These include:
Restaurants: Tell the hostess or manager that you want a server who did not vote for Trump. If that person says something to the effect We dont talk politics, so I dont know. Wait until you are seated and ask the server if they voted for Trump. If the answer is Yes or there is hemming and hawing around, go back to the manager and say, I want a server who did not vote for Trump or I am leaving.
Hair Stylists/Barbers: Ask the direct question of the manager or hair stylist. If the salon cannot provide you with a stylist who did not vote for Trump, tell the manager that you are taking your business elsewhere.
Dental hygienist: When you call to make an appointment, say you want a hygienist who did not vote for Trump. If you get any hassle, say that you are taking your business elsewhere.
Dentists: In my shopping community, there are six dental practices within walking distance of each other. I am under contract with my current dentist for an expensive Invisalign process, so I am stuck with that. However, I will ask the Invisalign Tech if she voted for Trump and when I need my teeth cleaned, I will ask for a nonTrumpster hygienist. If they dont have one, I will go to one of the other practices to get my teeth cleaned. I have been thinking about trying one of the other practices, so a cleaning is a good introduction to a new dentist.
When you opt to not do business somewhere, always explain to the manager why you are taking your business elsewhere.

(2,164 posts)Also when you have a Haitian or other immigrant checker at the store, or when having your receipt checked at the door at Costco, just mention that you are glad that they are here, that our country is better for having people from all over the world. It takes less than a minute and it always seems to bring a smile.

(2,164 posts)I need to eat the food I stored up in case of unrest if Trump lost. But Sunday here in SW Florida it was very quiet, very few people in Costco, Publix, Lowe's, or Walmart. I wonder if the Cubans are staying in. Also traffic noise is much quieter than usual at my house. And one very nice mom and pop nursery has suddenly closed. If you have a particular unusual plant that you want for your garden, you probably should get it now. Mom and pop nurseries are genetic repositories for valuable cultivars and these nurseries are some of the first businesses to go under when times get hard.

(4,381 posts)I say that's the reason I haven't been out in the world since then. Truth is, I don't want to be around any of these stupid rednecks. I live in an area that no doubt went hand in glove for trump. Retired military officers - colonels and above. They have money and want to keep it... that's all I've ever heard from them on most subjects. No problem they're double and triple dipping; they're entitled to that, they think. But medicare? Ha! They have TriCare and will go on and on about how much better it is. I honestly don't trust myself, even today, to be civil in their presence. I have two friends who are "libertarians" (yea, right)... no about of conversations amongst all of us can change their attitudes. I suspect they voted from trump. I can't bring myself to initiate conversation with either one. Other than that, one in particular I couldn't love more if he was my brother... which makes it hurt all the more to me.

(2,164 posts)I understand that. I worked for a giant public hospital for 30 years to get my pension. And because it is a public pension my Social Security is drastically cut, even though I worked all those years under Social Security (I worked since I was 14). But I have been told many times by reich-wingers that public workers with a pension shouldn't be able to collect all of (or any of) the Social Security for which we have worked. Finally there appeared a chance a couple of months ago to help us get our money, but I doubt it will pass now.

(4,381 posts)but not for those who retire at such higher levels? Geesh... most I know are making more in contractor positions and retirements from that, than they are from their own retirement checks! Never mind SS. Crap... that's really dipping at the trough!

(2,164 posts)movement in France our master gardener group was issued yellow high-visibility vests to direct traffic in the county fairgrounds' parking lot. I was very pleased to be wearing a yellow vest, and I said so. There was a German guy in our group who understood what I meant, but not even one of the Fox watching US people had any clue at all.

(120,281 posts)across the parking lot, I noticed one of those obnoxious trucks wih the TRAITOR**'s and confederate flags, in a handicap spot, no less, right by the front entrance. Decided not to go in, because I could not vouch for my barely-controled temper since Wednesday morning. Annd I like the staff at the ARC. They are always nice to me.

Of course they thought there would be a fight. How can they believe other people are any different than they are?!

(5,713 posts)as if they knew in advance. Near us there were almost no signs this year, none for the psycho and one house had all dem signs. Before the election 1-2 weeks people put them on the roads sometimes. Today while driving I saw an suv or mini truck with huge obnoxious psycho killer flags. I have not seen one like that for ages. We had a bed and breakfast house that had huge psycho flags and flagpoles etc. but that was taken down 2 years ago I think.
