The checks and balances are gone. And it will only get worse.
They were not very good to begin with because the president had way too much power and the constitution has no standards for who can run for office. Add a corrupt party to it and it's all toast.

* In addition there is no easy way to quickly get rid of an insane/corrupt head of state as there is in other parliamentary goverments.
