Do you see it now?

Every time some person on this board expresses an opinion which is dire or dystopian, it's guaranteed that someone will come back and say something like, "Oh, he can't do that!" or "What a vivid imagination you have!" or "Get your tinfoil hats out!" or "How stupid!" And, they're on our side, and they care, but not to the point of listening without comment. Not to the point of consideration of the words spoken.

Well, consider this. Which other leader has started immediately after election to purge the military of generals he doesn't like? If you don't think that this whole thing is shaping up to be the Fourth Reich, you need to take a step back and see the big picture. WE ARE IN TROUBLE.

This Orange Hellbeast is going to satisfy his wet dreams of being an equal dictator to Lil' Kim and Putin. This monster has studied and buddied with the worst dregs of humanity currently alive today.

Honestly, it does seem like just a bad dream. But, why is he reimaging the military right now? You know why. We are now subjects that better get in line a la Kim's people.

How long do you think that this board has left before the Internet comes under the control of Trump, and no dissenting opinions are allowed? Fascism requires control of the news, of communication between persons who might say "no." Trump is a fascist dictator.

My family is leaving for SA early next year. I'm halfway sorry I can't go with them. I see their point, though. And I never thought that the border wall was meant to keep Mexicans out. It will be used to keep us in.

Keep feeding him those hamberders. Maybe we'll get lucky. And, he got two purple hearts for having a bullet perhaps graze his ear. I hope whoever coughed up their purple hearts for this monster are totally embarrassed.

He isn't cute. He isn't smart. He isn't nice. He isn't kind. He isn't talented at anything. He's not generous, and he is not loving. He doesn't give a damn about anything except money and power to get money. And this is who got elected to be our leader? What an embarrassment!

A lot of the people who shoot down the wilder topics are also very informed, but historically. This time around he has more allies in all branches and time to actually plan. His first four years seemed to me like we had a President who was willing to give the republican establishment what they wanted. Now that the MAGA party is in power, who knows how far and down what weird roads we’ll go. It’s hard to know how far and by what creative means Trump can push it. At the very least, I expect he and his inner circle to make major $$ and a lot of marginalized groups to suffer more.

That is always hard to determine. THIS LIST is a little dated, but given there is only one living person on it much of it has probably not changed yet.

According to Forbes Real Time Billionaires Musk is doing pretty well, but not significant percentage of world GDP well. World GDP is ~$110 trillion USD. Musk's fortune is ~$300 billion or 0.27%. Horrendous but not the highest in human history.

Just to keep our perspective and maybe our sanity.

Between the gerrymandering, voter purging Supreme Court interference with Bush, Read article about how they have even gerrymandered the electors, the fact that they stated in red controlled areas they could just decide. Sorry but the voting machines several computer security experts have given warning. The biggest tell is the republican machine itself. They always accuse the other side of something and then they do it on steroids. The big lie was to make it ridiculous to say anything about what they were actually doing. Then almost all voter fraud found has been republican. Then there is all the Russian interference that somehow can't be proved yet the fingerprints are there.

Add to your list the fact that wants a bill passed in the house that will allow his administration to go after and shut down organizations - including news orgs. He also wants the Republicans in Congress to leave so it’s “in recess” and he can make all kinds of recess appointments without the approval of Congress. Presidents usually do this when they have a candidate that is so bad that they are afraid that congess will stop it. That is saying ALOT when you consider it’s the Republicans in the House who basically do whatever Trump wants.

A couple of days ago a DU’er posted a sort of “stop panicking, the sun will rise tomorrow, we will all have food to eat tomorrow” etc post.

Really? I lost my oldest son to suicide during the COVID years. The posts on my SOS (Survivors of Suicide Loss) support groups have skyrocketed since Trump’s re-election. This is hitting people HARD!!

It’s not about “the sun will rise tomorrow”, the sun has risen every morning since my son died and that doesn’t make it all a-ok. I have all the food in the world to eat, but it sticks in my throat and tastes like dirt.

This IS a big deal to many. In fact, it’s life or death for some. Don’t minimize those who are traumatized by this as “catastrophizing”. This IS a catastrophe for many, and some are barely hanging on. I know I am.

Gaza is about to become a parking lot.

Women will be relegated to second class citizen status for a generation.

There will be discriminatory and unconstitutional actions taken during the mass deportation of minorities, especially Latinos.

Look at the results by demographics. That's why I don't care much anymore. I have reserved my sympathy for Jewish Americans, the LGBTQ community and black women. Everyone else can pound sand.

Since Trump was elected. Many people "despair" due to mental health issues, like my son who lost his battle about 3 years ago. I can say his despair wasn't a "sin", it was an illness. And it didn't all turn out well.

I am terrified for those who are already vulnerable, and I believe it is going to get much much worse. That's not "despair", that is personal observation from being involved in Suicide Loss support groups.

Sin isn't quite what everyone thinks. It is an archery term that means off the mark. Depression is a terrible thing to live with. I have had bouts. I will go a long while then it sneaks back. I believe that it is sneaking back. This thread was really dark and thought some encouragement would be good.

Mass deportations, a purge of our highest leadership in the military, purge of our scientists and medical doctors - the list goes on and on. People don't want to believe these things even as they are already starting to happen. These are very dark times. If I were even ten years younger, I would leave this country.

Except Newsome and his rebel alliance are doing anything. Seems a preemptive strike would be better than waiting and watching.

it does seem like the very worst has to happen before the majority wake up - well, we are well on our way now

Went to home page there it was. I guess they never watched Star Wars with Mace Windu.

They seem to be a bunch Arthur Neville Chamberlains could use a Churchill about now.
