Not giving this post a lot of thought really. Just making it up as I go along. So here's the deal from thoughts off the top of my head tonight. 'Give us your tired and your hungry' too right ... and I'm 66 so the title of this post is just an old western thingy ... anyway....
Wanting to leave the Country and actually having the resources, ability etc... to do it are another thing. I'm in Cali and am staying put for now. But if I was in any state not blue east of here I'd be making plans to head West. Washington State, Oregon or Cali on the coast. Washington State and Oregon are more affordable.
Land here and then look to head abroad if needed as the future unfolds. Buy's you time as I see it. Easier to cross State lines then waiting on whatever other Country would accept you from where you are now.
I know there are those who don't even have the option to go across state lines. Finances and what-not. I've been on DU since 2005 and have seen some amazing things when we get our heads together stay calm and carry on.
There may have to be a few "real underground' actions to protect our own out in the world. That will unfold as again the bluster and or real actions from the Trump admin again start to unfold after Jan 20th. We will all monitor it.
For now here's something I have framed on my wall that I look to now and then .... which I wrote out after studying what people actually regret before dying ...
"I wish I hadn't spent so much of my life worrying. It's my responsibility to be as happy as I can be right here today. Focus on the short term, this too shall come to pass. One day at a time, instead of worrying ... Prepare. Have faith in yourself, and not your imagination."
All the best DU, we are all in this together, keep speaking truth to power, keep your head up, keep the faith, LIVE, and stay tight.
Doublethink. Peace.

(7,132 posts)I re-read that thingy I wrote up on my wall all the time. The mind gets 'distracted' daily. You are very welcome wordstroken. Hope springs eternal and now's not the time to doubt it. Ha. All the best and hugs back. Onward.

(6,231 posts)I had a feeling then that this would be a better place to age due to the thin social safety net in Texas. It has been one of my best life decisions.
However, affordable housing has been a major challenge the whole time I've been here. Housing is VERY expensive and hard to find. Oregon hasn't done a lot of housing construction so existing housing stock is often old and moldy. Normal apartments here would be considered run-down low-income apts in Houston.
But it's blue, and boy am I glad to be here this week! Good luck on your explorations.

(7,132 posts)to come West. Freaking housing costs are ridiculous everywhere. KAMALA covered it, Trump WTF didn't even approach it along with everything else that matters to us. Nothing concrete we are all dealing with day to day in the real world. Mind boggling how the lack of critical thinking skills in this country have become rampent since I was in school..
