If you don't want to have your social media sold out from under you, then you should look into open source alternatives.

"Mastodon" has become a catch-all for a whole host of federated open social media platforms. I personally like "Sharkey" because I get all the benefits of Twitter, but with like 3000 character limit, QTs, and threaded feed.

The problem isn't tech. It's users.

Users won't fucking MOVE.

Their "friends" are on Twitter, or Facebook, or Instagram, or Tiktok, or whatever.

And their "friends" are just SOOOO important to them.
