Historically, Florida has been underrepresented in the upper echelons of the executive branch, but the incoming administration will seemingly balance the scales.
As President-elect Donald Trump gears up to return to the White House, Florida politicians have been at the top of his list for some of the highest-ranking posts outside of the presidency itself, chief among them U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who is rumored to be Trumps pick for Secretary of State.
Another pick running through the rumor mill: Tiffany Justice for Education Secretary.
Justice is the co-founder of Moms for Liberty, a Florida-grown conservative organization that rose to prominence for spearheading the book ban zeitgeist of the post-pandemic era and employing groomer rhetoric during debates over culture war school legislation, such as Floridas Dont Say Gay law.
The prospect of a Secretary Justice is likely to trigger Democrats; there is little they can do outside of a filibuster to stymie the pick when the next Congress is sworn in, the GOP will control at least 51 seats, and the Governors who will appoint Rubios and incoming Vice President JD Vances replacements are both Republicans.

The horror is already in full swing, and I've not heard any seconding to the motion Biden call a halt to this sham. Folks, that is the only way to persevere, and still, we make preparations for America's funeral.

(7,794 posts)Allowing Trump to assume the office is dereliction of duty. Biden must prevent Trumps atrocities before they occur. There is nothing in our system that will stop him or even slow him down. All the calls to resistance and warnings to Republicans majorities that they will be met with fierce Democratic resistance are empty threats and idle fantasy. Trump is not normal. His election is not normal. The steps required to preempt him must also, by definition, be like none ever done before. But if Trump is allowed to proceed, allowed to be inaugurated we are done as a democratic republic. The most heartbreaking thing about the end of America will be that we allowed it because we assumed our system was strong and our procedure could somehow persevere. It's ridiculously reminiscent of Europe's Jews and their confused but cooperative stroll to those brand-new communal showers.

Not one of his appointments is qualified for the job. Not one. Some are so completely crony appointments that I can only laugh. This is one. Stefanik is another.
I wont be laughing long, I know.
He is building the kakistocracy. Government by the worst people.

(1,341 posts)Then, find a way for "the government" to financially supplement the racist parents of white kids who want to send their kids to private
schools, away from all the "bad influences" of the public school system (i.e. those people who ain't white Christians)
Then defund and abandon the public schools altogether -- the institution that best enabled equal opportunity and was a pillar of our social contract among all citizens. Blame the democrats, teachers, the absence of the Ten Commandments on a school wall, and the poor minorities who are given the bums rush for the demise of public schools.
This has been the plan since the introduction of the code word: "voucher".
Making America Great Again?? Nope -- just making it dumb and inequitable. . . unless you think this was a great nation in 1870.
