As a Dem of course I want all Dems to vote. But as a veteran, I want everyone who is eligible to vote. I don't know who I dislike more, those who could vote that don't even bother to register, or those that register and then don't vote. I saw too many men and women sacrifice to assure this most fundamental of rights and to see it so easily dismissed or ignored I consider a personal affront and a national tragedy.

Ennui, stress, tired, distracted, intimidated, or just didn't feel voting would make a difference.
Some of them can't be bothered to vote because they couldn't make the time, or they weren't near a polling place, or they just forgot -to mail in their ballots, to get up in time to vote before their shift started.
Some didn't have transportation or enough money for transportation.
Some people were alone. Or depressed.
I know, weak excuses. The other side has them, too. But apparently, not as many alone people who aren't able to make it to the polls.

I'm looking at Dems who registered to vote because they found themselves signing a petition a couple years back, or they were more enthusiastic 20 years ago, or they were registered when they got their driver's license but never voted.

There are people registered to vote because it was easy to register, but voting takes more than 5 minutes, and it involves time thinking and making a choice about the future. That's just too much for some folks.

Especially the lost people who find the Democrats won't let them die in the streets just because Democrats recognize not everyone has the same amount of emotional strength, mental or physical health to do what needs to be done sometimes.
Especially those still suffering from Long Covid or other diseases that affect their rational thinking or motivation to just move.

You can't force people to do what they don't want to do or feel up to doing, they're the type that will go along with their own business until they're staring down a tangible, physical threat. And even then, about a quarter of the population will still blank out in panic or stress.

First, someone is going to win. Second, what values, exactly, do they have that make it impossible to choose between Harris and Trump? LOL

Trump is, by any objective measure, the most ludicrous candidate in US history who was the worst president in US history the first time, the only one ever impeached twice. And then he tried a coup. And then he tried to steal votes in Georgia. We have the recording. Did these people watch the Jan. 6 bipartisan committee? And then Trump committed all kinds of crimes. He's a felon. He's committed all kinds of depraved acts live on TV and said the stupidest things ever recorded. And he's a demented nearly 80-year-old.

Then you have Harris, a lifelong prosecutor, former AG of California, VP of the United States, and a normal human with a sense of humor, empathy, and no rap sheet.

Yah, who in the hell could possibly be expected to choose between those two . . . My gawd. Why do we even bother to have schools.

We are never going to have a perfect candidate but we can vote to make life a little better, unicorns don’t exist, but people do and we can vote to try and save our planet ,feed the hungry, make sure our schools are safe and teaching science, no woman should die because of sepsis, and the list is long but pick one and try to make a difference.

no other candidates, we are voting for something. We know they will destroy all the things I mentioned in my post. But because of our system we normally only have two valid choices and one choice that will move things forward. Unfortunately some people are going to feel pain disproportionately.

Voting should be mandatory. I used to believe forcing people to vote was wrong - but there is no excuse for people being so apathetic.

My solution - make voting mandatory. Either make voting day a holiday or move it to a Saturday. No excuse not to vote.

Donald Trump has gotten more non-voting, disengaged, disinterested people to vote than any candidate in American history.

And how’s that working out?

The idea that 100 percent voting would usher in a liberal utopias is nuts.

Part of the problem is the ignorant and misinformed voting for Trump. Forcing even more ignorant and mis-informed folks to vote sounds like a disaster. Especially with the toxic media we have.

they did not like the way President Biden was trashed and kicked to the curb by celebrities, the media and his own party, and were given no voice in his replacement?

By trashing the President you trash his administration. Kamala of course is a part of that administration and that made it easy for the felon to blame her for peoples anger with the increase in prices at the store. That may have caused more Dems to not vote.

Nothing like that had happened before.

I've been voting since the early seventies, and in all those decades, I've only voted 'FOR' two candidates, that didn't win; George McGovern and Bernard Sanders.
I've voted AGAINST all my life. Sometimes the state of the country is more important than selfishness.

only about 2 percent now, 2-3 million.

California and some other states are still counting votes.

Also notable: Kamala Harris actually got MORE votes than Joe Biden
in Georgia, North Carolina and Wisconsin....

This was a tight election, as was predicted.

That said, YES, we could have won it, if all of the 2020 voters had shown up,
but those who are saying it was 10 or 12 million are incorrect now--
(that was only true early in the vote counting, which still is not finished)

We forget 2020 was an anomaly, not the norm. The extraordinary efforts made to reach people during Covid resulted in a boatload more votes for Biden. We assumed they would just show up again.
