That feeling is back.
The feeling of dread and uncertainty that existed for four plus years when we woke up every single morning.
That feeling of "What's he going to do now?" or what person he'll try to antagonize or how he'll plot or conspire to his own selfish ends.
What fresh hell will he bring today?
We had a four-year respite from it. Even President Biden's most staunch ideological opponents would have to truthfully and honestly admit he never put them in any such position himself.
But now we're back to this moment again. Every single morning.

Trump already loves Hitler's actions, and I am sure Putin is backing him up to do this, as a strong handed way to silence anyone from saying anything critical of him or his actions........

I asked him what they all think of Trump.
He says the Russian Citizens are all laughing about how easily Putin has been able to "Play" Trump.....saying that Putin, through Trump has been able to disrupt the U.S. economy, and the U.S. Constitution at the same time, without starting a war, or firing a single rocket or missile to accomplish bringing down the U.S...........

(8,631 posts)This time is different. I was too shocked in '16 now I'm fighting mad as hell.
I will not let that man rob my brain with "oh look what he said/did/signed" etc. for the next four years. Nope, I can't. My mental health can't. I'm going to get active doing something besides being a news junkie. The media has made their choice. They are going to report on that asswipe as soon as the first hour of the day comes and I'm not going to be listening.
I moved back to the states in April and I'm here to defend our rights and democracy. We may have lost this election (maybe) but I'm not giving up. I am woman hear me roar. I'm pissed off that even though I am out of the "child bearing years" I worry about my sister humans and their health and safety.
I'm going to contact a shelter or woman's shelter or planned parenthood here to see if I can help. New city, new state, new life. I'm not backing down. You should consider the same.

(35,464 posts)Have been dealing with some fringe family that are all closet trumpers. I am so done. I do not care if I ever see or hear from them again.
I need to find some volunteer work as well…not sure what that will be. But, for right now I get up (retired) everyday and decide what I can do today to blow the fucking stink of t-rump off. It’s just ordinary stuff, but it clears my mind, and relieves the putrid smell.
I haven’t watched any cable news for at least 5 yrs and it’s incredibly freeing mentally, and time wise. I get so much more accomplished.

(8,631 posts)And only the trumpers remain. I have not had a get together with family on holidays for almost 2 decades. With the Ds yes, but we’ve always stayed away before then. Now that I’m back in a far away state, I don’t have much contact with them anyway. I have to create a new family here.

(85,715 posts)I'm guessing (AND hoping) that by January, many of our friends and colleagues will have seen enough already, before the donald even takes office, that they'll be eager to find ways to fight back.
Indivisible was a great help for me when we moved to a new state, and that's where I found new friends. GOOD ones, too. And we do stuff, from sign-holding on busy street corners to campaign assistance, petition drives, and more. It's a good way to channel your frustration and energy into something positive. You'll feel like you're actually DOING SOMETHING, even if it's something small. Highly recommended - AND emotionally gratifying!
Wait til January or late December to start looking around, unless you get wind of something starting to happen sooner than that. Check out your local Democratic party or activist group - like Planned Parenthood or the shelters you mentioned. People are gonna need help, and they may be facing desperate times. They'll be hoping for a "guardian angel" or two.

(40,224 posts)But to suffer or fear before it's necessary is to give in to unnecessary suffering. Don't do that.
We just have to keep watch, pray, eat, sleep, and love -- and focus on what's right in front of us. (fwiw, the Bible says "fear not" 365 times. As it proves, we've been dealing with fear for thousands of years and have to give it up.)

(1,192 posts)But the orange monster was still there, shooting off his mouth regularly and stirring up his followers the entire time.
I was saying to my husband last night that it has been about 15 years that we've had to see his ugly face regularly on the news and hear his vile, stupid comments (longer if you count the birther claims he pushed during the Obama years). I am so utterly sick of him. I was so happy to think that we were going finally be rid of him once and for all. But, no, here he is again, wreaking worse havoc than we could ever have imagined—and he hasn't even started his term yet. I just can't believe it...

(1,153 posts)I don't want that feeling of dread every time there is an alert.
I can't hope and wish that the courts hold the line....too many trump appointed judges for that. Too easy to "shop" for a judge that will see it their way.
It has been one week since I turned off the TV news....no ABC, NBC or CBS trying to normalize trumpism.
Not going to watch CNN try to both sides it for 4 years.
My local news is owned by Sinclair, so I don't even want to watch that. Will probably just go with our weekly local paper for local news.
No MSNBC on my cable line-up so I'll just watch that if someone from DU decides to post.
I cancelled the Washington Post; never been on X; and stopped looking at Facebook years ago.
I plan to stay on DU, but I have become weary of hearing how terrible Democrats are. Once again Democrats are giving credence to the news media's "Democrats are in disarray" reporting.

(85,715 posts)Yes we still have MSNBC.
But I wasn’t gonna start there. We still have DU, too.
And we still have this enlightened group here with which we can keep each other company. Not a single one of us has to face any of this completely alone.
Once again, I like to bring up the best-ever quote that’s as simple as it is profound:
“Someone’s always here.” A super important and memorable observation by DUer Skittles.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve picked myself up by the minimal act of reminding myself of those “other” three little words. If NOTHING else, it’ll help give you something else to think about. Distractions can be your friend.

(10,777 posts)Back then, it was just four years of bad policy we had to deal with.
This time, it's likely that we won't have fully free and fair elections again in the foreseeable future. And things will have to get truly terrible for ordinary people before votes will swing hard enough to overcome the authoritarian thumb on the scales.

(5 posts)I know I have to pull myself together, as sinking into a deeper hole of despair will not improve anything. So, I stopped watching cable news---even MSNBC---because I can't tolerate the endless "why the democrats failed" analysis. (I have sunk to watching "The Curse of Oak Island" and "Expediation Bigfoot" reruns. And a new season Oak Island just started! Okay, my taste in TV is questionable.) No. The Democrats did not fail. The harsh reality is that most of the country knowingly chose this monster. And no amount of canvassing, phone banking and uplifting rallys were going to change anything. The reasons for Trump's election are not complicated---racism, sexism and greed won. The odds that the Lagina brothers find their treasure are higher than the likihood of American finding its soul.

(5 posts)Thanks! After two years of caring for my husband (had Alheizmeirs, he died in late September. He was a kind soul even as Alheizmeirs destroyed his memories) I am trying to slowly shake this depressive fog. Anyway, today I contacted my piano instructor to resume lessons after a hiatus. I took lessons for a few years as a kid, quit when became a teenager, and resumed about a year and a half ago. Had to stop as my husband's Alheizmeirs progressed. One stop closer to rejoining the living....
Hope you make it to 100!

(5,472 posts)(before the pandemic), and my wife worked from home. So, each day when I walked through the door, she would greet me or I would greet her with, "Did you hear what he said/did today?" Like clockwork.
One of the great things about the last four years was not having to worry about what Joe did or said on any given day. On occasion it might be something I didn't necessarily agree with, but there would be no insanity certainly, so I could live my life and not worry. I'm going to miss that.

(21,317 posts)I did not know what was really going on because that was adult talk, but the tension during the Cuban Missile Crisis was palpable to this kid. KC-135s were flown low over my house late at night for finishing at another plant, and they shook the windows. I just knew they were Russian bombs coming in. The Boeing plant where they built military aircraft was just across the water and all the kids knew we were on the hit list if a war started.
I was trained for this moment but the difference is, my fellow citizens voted for this.
