Im a semi rural Amazon Prime subscriber. Im going to enjoy ordering some shit I dont need in order to send it back
Every returned order costs Jeff Bezos money. As long as I order a Prime product the return is free to me. No hassle.
Im gonna order a bunch of stuff and return it all.
A little act of insurrection.

(10,234 posts)Your plan is to add more work for already overworked employees during the busy holiday season so you can stick it to a billionaire who will neither feel nor care about the gesture, all in service of signaling righteousness?
No hassle for you. Hassle for others, tho. Underpaid and overworked others, much of the time.
You could just not order things, achieve more or less the same effect, and not bother any workers while doing it.

(3,325 posts)Why does this add more work to employees? They do the work they do in a shift. If adding some extra returns adds additional work, you are sure that this will be absorbed by the employees and not by the company?
More to the point: Do you actually believe that returns to Amazon have a zero effect on the bottom line? Amazon pays the freight out and the freight back. Not clear who eats the loss of profit on the transaction (clearly, most Amazon returns are not just restocked and resold).
But really: ordering nothing has "more or less the same effect" than costing Amazon the shipping charges?
This is interesting!

(10,234 posts)I worked an office job in an Amazon distribution center, so lemme tell ya how this goes.
"They do the work they do in a shift."
Yes. And some shifts - particularly around the holidays - are much, much worse than others. As in questioning all of your life choices worse. You haven't lived until you've watched dejected employees on the line deal with a literal avalanche of boxes come flying down the chutes. And if you think Amazon is hiring a number of employees adequate to handle the influx, that's also a no. Seasonal doesn't begin to cover it. What happens is the usual employees get crushed and exhausted under it. Well, more exhausted. They're already exhausted all the time.
But hey, if you've a political point to make on social media, why not add to their pile? Remember, hassle free for me was a selling point of the "protest" (really sacrificing there). And all the delivery drivers applauded. Amen.

(1,090 posts)doing as much as you possibly can, due to the holiday rush that you point to, how is it possible to do more?
Wouldn't the extra work simply pile up, or force the hiring of more workers?
