Study linked on Twitter/X : approximately mid-July, the algorithm was modified to subject users to more pro-Trump content whether they sought it or not.

1. I deactivated my account

But this is true- before I deactivated I was BOMBARDED with trump ads- it was all I saw and it was relentless. Every other tweet on my feed was trump. I would block it, but that didn’t do anything to stop it. I wasn’t a big account there either. Mostly lurked, did not have any kind of real following.

2. I did too, just this past week.

There was Trump crap all over that platform. And you couldn't say "not interested", or block it. It was FORCED on you.

3. Absolutely no doubt about it from my observation.

On “For you” my feed was swamped with pro Trump posts. As many know here, I do tune into talk radio to gauge what’s going on in their world. Likewise on Twitter I let the algorithm show me what it thinks I want to see. Now granted by reading these or clicking on them I am feeding the algorithm. I don’t pay. Blocking ability fluctuated but using “Not interested” to reporting posts seemed to ween a lot out but it kept coming back. Different posters with the same messages. There’s clearly a daily cycle on the newest talking point. For You repeatedly made sure I saw it. And this was a noticeable change from just after Elon taking over AND slashing his review staff.

4. Elon and the other investors bought Twitter to elect Trump.

It's not clear how much of Musk's own money is invested in Twitter. It's not hard to guess who else invested money in the purchase. I think Musk is a figurehead, similar to the way Trump is a figurehead. Their role is the carnival barker that draws the crowds with their antics.

It seems like science fiction, but it's real: There's a collection of billionaires who control social media and the data the platforms supply, and they're using that power to destroy democracies, worldwide. They just landed a big fish with the U.S., but it's not the first or last country they'll take over.

Our news media is either woefully unprepared or in on it.

The result is that people are losing faith in every institution. Young people don't read or watch the news, don't trust the government, don't trust any political party.

6. Completely agree.

Going from low tech to high tech, the media is either woefully lazy or taking orders from the same people you mentioned. They completely ignore radio but it’s 24/7 in the car. That has an effect. I don’t want to sound like an elite conspiracist but it’d be crazy for them NOT to manipulate what everyone sees. The old saying is that it’s a lot cheaper to control things (politicians) at the more local level. The smaller the office the cheaper. This isn’t cheap but it’s WAY more effective. It’s all encompassing.

When you combine the reports we are now hearing from canvassing operations (total misinformation and little or no blame for Trump in his 1st administration) to EarlG’s excellent analysis of the effects of algorithms, it adds up.

And probably every other media outlet in existence. It is what they do... Constant free press!
