Summer of 1972. Months out of High School

18 years old. Working at Walmart. Joined the Navy. Three months before I went to Basic Training. Pals, Coworkers, Neighbors, Teachers would see me around town and say, hey there’s guys in suits asking questions about you.

A naive kid from Arkansas with nary a negative check mark required a background check to get a job at the lowest pay grade in the military.

A pedophile, nominated by a convicted felon to be the top cop in the Nation need not be bothered with a background check.

Christian Conservative Values.

He applied for Officers Candidate School and my housemates told me that "a guy in black shoes" came to the door asking for me. (Severe side eye from my roommates. Why exactly is the FBI here? You have friends in the FBI?! What about my stash? Did you tell him about my stash?!" )

Background checks and top secret documents meant something at one time. Trump did away with all that and Republican "patriots" cheer.

After aptitude testing for MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) I was picked to be a cryptoanalytic specialist in the ASA (Army Security Agency). I was already in basic training when the interviews took place. My parents told me everyone…everyone I ever knew or had contacted with was interviewed by the FBI or some agency. My parents were a little scared.
Yes…I received a very high security clearance…being a 20 year old male with an incompletely formed brain I had no idea of exactly that meant. Wowsa did I find out!

Only applies to little people. Not Trump people. The Pentagon and the CIA are soon to be information pipelines to Russia, China and North Korea.

Our allies will abandon any information connection with the US. If they’re smart, they already have.

They make it so easy to ridicule. I was young and naive but I was damned proud that guys in suits were asking questions about me. I don’t understand why republicans don’t want their TEAMMATE Matty to be proud as well. Maybe he’s shy and reclusive.

I’ll take my team any day and 15 times on football weekends.

One day I get a call from a friend. He was away at college and they went to his home address that I had given as a reference. The FBI's visit asking a lot of questions about me shook up his Italian immigrant mother pretty good.

I later learned that the references I gave weren't the most important contacts...it was the *additional* names of people I knew that they got from these initial contacts that they were really the most interested in. That is, some of the other people that I knew but hadn't listed as references.

And that was just for the Secret clearance...it went somewhat deeper when I needed to get upgraded to Top Secret.

The Star Wars Cantina Clown Car that this asshole is choosing could probably never even get cleared to the 'Confidential' level, and should not any access whatsoever to any of our national security secrets.

But here we are...

They’d throw him in jail awaiting trial.

I was pretty impressed with their look at me. They asked my references about other people. Happy they did it

Meanwhile, my brother who was in IT, and usually had jobs that required a security clearance, once said something about feds talking to me about him.

Huh? Never happened. And I'm not remotely hard to find, as my real name is nearly as unique as "Poindexter Oglethorpe", he and I shared the same surname, and if nothing else, he'd have given them my contact information.

January the mask comes completely off and the USA will be a rogue, lawless state.

It's over.
