Should You Delete X? Millions Of Users Just Got A New Reason To Quit

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kateoflahertyuk/2024/11/15/delete-x-millions-of-users-just-got-a-new-reason-to-quit-today/

People are quitting X, formerly Twitter, in droves, citing toxic rhetoric and the platform’s new terms of service as reasons for deleting the social media platform.

One major reason people are deleting X is because the Elon Musk-owned platform’s new terms of service, effective Friday, Nov. 15, are bad for users’ privacy. These state that all users must agree to let their posts be trained by artificial intelligence, including X’s own service, Grok. It was previously possible to opt out from this.

The site’s toxic content is another reason many have cited for leaving. On Nov. 6, the day after the U.S. election, X experienced its largest user exodus since the tech billionaire bought the platform in 2022, NBC News reported.

...

Who Has Deleted X Already — And Why?

American retailers Best Buy and Target as well as U.S. public broadcaster NPR are among some big names that have quit the social media platform. Meanwhile major brands including Disney, Apple and IBM have paused their ads on X after they were found running alongside extremist content.

In November, former CNN anchor Don Lemon said he was quitting X due to an alarming change to X’s terms of service. He cited an issue arising from the changes, effective from Nov. 15, saying that disputes that arise between users and X as a company will be governed by “the laws of the State of Texas.”

over a year and a half ago. Never been happier. I'm on Threads mostly, BlueSky (occasionally) and Mastodon (rarely, because it's slow, complicated, and nobody much is there). I like Threads, and you can diss Zuck all you want. It's a good community, especially for women, and has become more so since the election. Lots of MDs there too, I've noticed, especially recently.

I can't access it by signing in as my old email was hacked. I don't want some Eloon taking it over.

I can sometimes access it when a link to a tweet is posted.

they want Grok to be trained by posts on X

Just like how AI scours the internet to train itself.

It's really not a big deal... even THIS forum is training AI as the AI is crawling all over the web... AI BOTS

“let their posts be trained by artificial intelligence, including X’s own service, Grok”

Can someone tell me what that means?

I was on Twitter for only a year and then deactivated and deleted my account when Musk bought it. Frankly, I don’t miss it or think about it.

Think. Again.

...but I have ben able to view twitter or x posts when given a lnk to them.

However, when I try to view a Bluesky post from a link, all I get is a blue butterfly shape on a white page.

I don't want to sign up for any account or anything but if people (DUers) are going to only post links to Bluesky posts instead of posting a view of the post, I won't be able to see them unless it has something to do with a setting on my browser or vpn or something.

to delete my account. I got banned from there a long time ago for arguing with election deniers. I kept showing facts by replying and was banned for something like harassment. It was really ridiculous. Apparently if you reply to replies in conversation form, it's considered harassment there.
I did try to sign up again a couple months ago so I could resume that, but now they want my phone number. HA, I don't think so. Du is about the only "social media" I use now, but I don't consider it the same thing really.

Elon Musk can go to hell. Fuck him, racist POS fascist and bigot that he is.

I look ahead and work forward to the day when he stands trial for treason and criminality against this country, and that damn smirk gets wiped off his face for real and for good.

I'm glad I deleted my Twitter account right when he took over. I knew that his reckless behavior was going to cause all kinds of problems with security on the site and wanted to get off before it happened. Twitter was always kind of stupid but it's now so bad it makes former Twitter look significantly superior in every way.

Democrats leaving X might have contributed to our loss.

100,000,000 YOUNG Americans are on X and on average spend 30 minutes a day on X - and get most of their news from X.

Democrats don’t want to influence all these young people?????? Mostly aged 18 to 45.
