A Trump Judge Just Blocked Overtime Pay for Millions... Media is Silent

A federal judge named Sean D. Jordan from Texas just made a ruling blocking President Biden’s policy to provide guaranteed overtime pay to workers who make less than $58,656 a year.

The lawsuit was filed against the Biden administration in Texas by the Republican Attorney General of Texas and various right-wing business groups aligned with Trump.

The lawsuit was deliberately brought in Texas to find a Trump-appointed judge who would ultimately rule against President Biden and against workers. The lawsuit is titled Texas v. Department of Labor, E.D. Tex., No. 24-00499, and I bet you’ve never even heard of it until now.

The facts in this case are simple: President Biden has been the most pro-labor president in American history, despite the media failing to report on his accomplishments for workers.

Let Management/Ownership finish the work if it's not done. See how fast they start paying OT.

I worked at a very large public hospital in Texas. One payday our checks were short. They told us that all rn's were considered management. We were paid nothing for the first hour over our shift that we worked, and we were only paid straight time for any hours over 80 in 2 weeks. This went on for a decade. The labor department did nothing. A few nurses finally found a law firm that sued, but they lost the suit.
I talked to Texas born nurses (obviously a great percentage of the nurses were on work visas) about a union. Even though we were being stolen from on literally every paycheck they would only say how bad unions were.

Before anyone says "You should just have quit", I'm gay and I have Asperger's. I had already been fired from two jobs when they found out that I was gay. It was not easy to find jobs in Texas and even more difficult to keep them. And also it was theft. Should a thief be forced to follow the law and not steal, or should they be allowed to steal if they can get away with it because they steal from those who are powerless.

be paying taxes, right? Win-win, right?

No? Never mind.

I have worked a LOT of involuntary overtime as an airline ticket agent for various reasons, but at least I was always paid. Plus, when we worked Sundays or holidays, we got straight time plus time and a half for the hours worked. If we went over eight hours on those days, we got something like double time.

This was in the 1970s, when unions were still fairly strong. We, the ticket agents at my airline, were not unionized, but we benefitted from strong unions in other areas, like the mechanics.

They'll get paid for 8 hours for that day, even if they have to get in an hour before to open, and stay an hour later to close.

And another 8 unpaid to come in and show their company loyalty on Saturday.

Because, by gawd, the company owner had to when he started up his business on his own back in the day.... employees shouldn't have it any easier.

I either looked it up or there was an article with the OP (can't recall) but it was about salaried workers who are not paid OT.

The ruling has zero affect on hourly employees.

As things stand, salaried employees who make less than about $35k are eligible for overtime pay. The new rule would have raised that number to about $58k.

Biggest mistake Biden administration made was not broadcasting Democratic accomplishments early and at every opportunity, now TSF will take credit for results of major long-term accomplishments like the infrastructure projects and sub-3% inflation.
