Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI trusted them all. Now what?
I trusted Michael Moore. I trusted George Clooney. I trusted the Obamas. I trusted Taylor Swift. I trusted Oprah. I trusted the fact that Kamala jumped so much in the polls, in a record time. I trusted the fact she made over a billion dollars. Certainly that must mean something, right? IE Numbers of donations. I trusted the "packed to the roof" rally's. I trusted most of the MSM that supported her. I trusted all those other popular people that came out in support for her. I trusted the American people to come out in mass quantities to vote and save our democracy again. But above all, I trusted Kamala Harris to perform as an American president. She represented democracy and "We the people". She was the extreme opposite of Trump.
So here I sit with 10's of millions of people, still in shock over what has transpired. How could this happen, I ask myself? I have yet to come up with an answer that feels satisfactory to me. Has this country totally lost it's mind? Since when is a felon, rapist, fraud and TV host con man an acceptable candidate to be qualified to be president? A man that promises authoritarianism, revenge to his contenders, a denier of the constitution, and the destruction of democracy as we know it. And then, even if he had passed the sniff test, how in the hell could he possibly win?
Something is wrong. Something is really wrong. I read, of all places the Daily KOS, that there is a strong possibility of rigging the vote in this election. If this were Trump, he would already have people counting by hand. He'd be all over MSM. We only have a few months to get it right. Today I saw a caravan driving around town displaying all their Trump shit all over their vehicles, driving 20 mph below the speed limit. I damn near puked. WTF has happened to this country?
So why is there no publicity by anyone to get the recount started? Especially by Kamala? The MSM. Social media is another source to push this. Nothing?
Other than the above I am at a loss for the logic behind this. Surely the vote can't be accurate. Right vs Wrong. Right is suppose to win every time.
If what has transpired actually sticks, you will see many of the Trump supporters regret they voted for this loser. It's already happening. By then it will be too late. So why don't we do a hand recount NOW and get this suspense over with?

(10,599 posts)Im pretty much done with it. $0 of contributions from me going forward. If I choose to vote, it wont be with any assurance that my vote will actually matter. And I wont let my hopes get raised under any circumstances. Ive realized that the opinions of pundits, and those who follow politics for a living, are worthless.

(3,063 posts)They were being kind, but they said it. Why didn't you trust that? Did you trust the NY Times polling average, which said Trump was even in 3 swing states and up in 4 on election eve? Why not? Both Obamas were saying it was desperate and very close. Did you really trust them, or just the parts that you liked?
Here's the bottom line: Harris came on in the third quarter down 35-0. She scored 4 touchdowns, but Trump scored one more. That's how it ended. She told you she was the underdog. She said it again and again. And again. And again. She wasn't lying. It was always an inside straight draw.

(64,377 posts)In the closing days of the campaign I felt sure that Harris would win. I was wrong. But we all knew that the race was essentially tied. It could have gone either way. Trump turned out his voters, and we fell a little short.

(273 posts)The bother something is that the election was a 50/50 chance between sanity and total chaos.
For many of us, it's not that we might win again. It's that nobody can win when 50% of Voters want pandemonium. It's stage 4 cancer without any treatment. The only question is how long does it take the body to die.

(13,861 posts)A. No time for the GOP to switch their strategy, but it seems that they didn't have to, since their supporters are big on racism, hatred and blame of all minorities, gutter talk, and misogyny.
B. It didn't give Kamala the usual time to get the message across to the dense, and the media only see two combatants, no more than jumping frogs, and can't make a value judgment.
Not a single Joseph Welch or Edward R. Murrow.
Plus whatever skulduggery they pulled off in 4 years of clandestine bullshit.

(8,492 posts)No harm there. We all do that to a certain degree. But its important to step back and look at history. Sometimes people act against what you think they should. The Germans were good people till they weren't, and now they are good again. America is not what you think it is and that's alright. They never were what you thought they were. Its always been a flux of ideals. We are not the first or the fastest or any thing like that most of the time, but we get there. Our country went crazy, but its not the first time. It is up to us to move away from all that shit though. Because Americans will suffer if we don't. I don't have a choice. I don't have a choice to think might have happened or what I want to have happened to make it make sense in my head I have to deal with the reality and go from there.
I have to deal with the reality, people depend on me. I have to fight the fight, because I want to and because people depend on me to. I don't care about cheating. It makes no difference. If they cheated they were wrong but no more so that just that they won was wrong. One is not worse than the other. They were wrong. We lost. That's temporary.

(3,620 posts)And I'd been writing (warning) about it for years.
Though it didn't help that Trump sold not only his maga devotees on hate, racism, misogyny, bigotry, victimhood, and lies,
but a significant enough number of voters from various demographics,
who were MORE motivated by those most repugnant of sentiments, than by those more noble.
In the final analysis, a significant enough number of Americans (and I use that term with far less pride than I ever had before) AREN'T all they're cracked up to be.

(71,820 posts)worse thing about that- those 1st time voters who stood in line all day only to lose will think voting doesnt matter. a lot of them will never vote again.
they got to nitpick mail in votes. i wonder how many got tossed.
i dont think they needed to switch votes to win. i know there r ppl out there who can put a number on all that. it wont change the results. but it will show how shaky the system is.

(1,946 posts)Now what nothing. If you are still looking for reasons to trust them nothing has happened. You still trust them and are waiting for them to tell you what you want to hear. Eventually they will say something, anything, a single statement that says to you that you have always been like them at heart, and you will be with them again. Nothing has happened. There is no now what.

(5,529 posts)And sometimes it takes a long time. Think nazi Germany, it took several long years to stop them and a nuclear bomb to stop Japan to finally end the war. There were several attempts on Hs life, but they all failed because by that point he had too much power and too many protective guards around him similar to Putin and youre probably going to see something like that now. In the end, H killed him himself when they were closing in on him and it was obvious the nazis were going to be defeated militarily.
The fact that the current psycho was ever allowed to run at all much less run twice more shows how terrible the system is here. We dont know for sure what happened, but it is possible that he did win although I believe there needs to be an audit, forensic audit, and recount, and it needs to be done after each election every time. I have absolutely no reason to trust that psychopathic murderer. However, now with this situation, we will be lucky if we have regular elections anymore going forward, and if there was any major cheating that affected the outcome this time its going to be used again and again.
The devastation that has been done is that once again, a psychopathic fascist who already murdered millions of Americans has been elected to the highest office, again, and he will do everything he can with his fascist supporters to destroy whats left of the country. The power is in their hands now, the court is corrupt. Its not clear what will happen. But at least there are still some in the house and the senate and elsewhere that will fight what he is going to try to do. The problem is the R party has largely capitulated to him and any who havent have been destroyed or left the party so you have a totally corrupt party which is conspiring with a psychopathic leader.
Many are still in denial of this but these are imo the facts. The media is normalizing him all over again. They are largely responsible for him ever gaining power and are happy to make profit and ratings off of him. What they should be doing now imo is reporting as little as possible about him and anything he does, just the bare minimum. Theres no requirement that they have the report every announcement etc. 24 hours a day.
Our leaders are supposed to protect us against this type of threat, but the whole system has failed. I dont see any sign of willingness to investigate the election on the part of dems except for some congressional and other elections. But still no forensic investigation of software afaik. So I dont hold hope for that. We are in for a very bad time imo, hopefully it will not be as bad as I fear.

(16,575 posts)It was close; it was always going to be close. A few thousand votes in the other direction in swing states and this would be a different conversation.
The margins were 2-3% in almost all of the swing states. Democrats failed on turnout. Trump certainly does not have anything like a mandate (which are not real anyway).

(440 posts)How can this many people be brainwashed into thinking Trump was the better choice? I could write paragraphs on why he shouldn't even be allowed on the ballot.
I didn't think Harris was a sure win, but I certainly did not think it would end up the way it did. Let's say I was optimistic. Trump wins all the battleground states? Yeah, I don't think so.
So it looks like Harris is giving up on her recount. If so, that's another issue all unto itself. Like I said, Trump would be all over it by now.
At this point, all I can say is God help us all. We're going to need it.

(770 posts)and there are more than 300 INDIVIDUAL PERSONS who have more than 8 billion dollars.
The problem isn't money. There's plenty of money. It's a twisted game.
The noblesse oblige has forgotten the oblige part: we simply don't matter. They can develop the rank file to suit their needs (technicians, doctors, janitors). They only need slaves, technicians, and themselves.
They don't need the rest of us.
What else are you supposed to if you have so much money it makes no difference WHAT you actually do? What a fertile breeding ground for perversion.

I tend to trust Elias, but I can not figure why he feels it's more important to not verify the first-count results, than to expect the same Constitutional respect that trump's 63 court cases in 2020 received from us.
Obviously, he is not giving the full story to the public.
There must be somethng els going on for us to be afraid of requesting simple audits and recounts to address legitimate election anomolies.

(12,870 posts)have what they wanted, a poorly educated president with whom they identify. Nietzsche was right about democracy defeating itself, and Khrushchev was right about the United States losing without the Soviets firing a shot.
Putin stands ready to restore the USSR, and American rubes and dupes are fine with that as long as they can watch reality TV.
This is indeed the dumbest nation on Earth. The great dumbing down fostered by Spiro Agnew and George Wallace back in 1968 is paying dividends for the wealthy elites, a permanent underclass working for slave wages, thus suppressing wages for the working class.
One Party said "they're eating the dogs," while the other said we want to help you own your own home. Stupidity has a price. The poorly educated who voted with their slave masters will pay the most for their ignorance. The rest of us will wind up paying for our ascent back to normality because that's how it's always works when the criminal element bankrupts the economy because regulations are removed to increase the corporate bottom line. Trickle down has never worked for the working class that gets golden showers while the wealthy elites get golden parachutes.
Hang on to your hats. Desperate people do desperate things.

(52,752 posts)But now we need to learn to trust something else. In our own Democratic ranks, there are people who will never vote for a woman, and who will only vote for a black man with a once-in-a-generation charisma like Obama.
I'm a woman. I hate it. But the numbers prove it.
They have told us this twice now. Trust that. And if we ever get another chance to vote for a President, remember it.
