Not going to play the medias "Apprentice, Survivor, Golden Bachelor, or Entertainment Tonight" game

Last edited Tue Nov 19, 2024, 07:11 AM - Edit history (1)

Maybe if CNN and MSNBC, or some new programming actually commits itself to news, I might give it a look, but until then, I am taking a hard-pass.

I refuse to participate in the "who's getting the rose" shit show cable news has become. Faux News will provide all the 24/7/365 "cliffhanger, will he, or won't he" garbage the MAGAts crave. Won't watch that either, but CNN and MSNBC doing their Faux imitation, is like going to the Purple Lloyd Pink Floyd tribute band concert, instead of an actual Pink Floyd concert. They both play from the same sheet music, but it's just not the same.

I have better things to do with my time than watch "journalists interview other journalists" 24/7. It really is the "news" equivalent of mutual masturbation.

There is an opportunity for something new. 73+ million votes have demonstrated that. Maybe a return to real, hard-hitting investigative journalism is possible, but of course, only if it's profitable.

Make it "Reality TV".

Devote a couple of hours a day to follow the last days of a pregnant wife and mother as she navigates red-state reproductive healthcare. Imagine the drama as doctors and lawyers mitigate her fate. Keep the cameras rolling as she bleeds out in front of her husband and kids.

Maybe an Immigrant Farm Worker "Survivor" blockbuster could fill a couple more hours. Highlight that Farm to Table journey through the 100+ degree Central Valley farm to our Thanksgiving table. Might be a bit more informative than just video, after video of unwashed hordes storming through a fence. Imagine the advertising you could sell. You could follow a young Honduran girl as she journeys from potential rape victim in her home village, to roofing contractor working in an American suburb.

If you're looking for "economic programming", maybe an in-depth examination of how inflation works. Make it like "The Price is Right".
"Hey Marsha! Come on down! You're the next contestant on "Why Do Eggs Cost This Much"?

Be sure to examine how EVERY FUCKING SINGLE CENT OF RECENT INFLATION WAS DUE TO THE INCOMPETENT HANDLING OF A CRUSHING PANDEMIC BY DONNIE DIPSHIT.

We wouldn't want people to forget that unemployment was 20% and 10,000 Americans a week were dying when Donnie Dipshit left office, unless we really wanted to make sure they forget

So...just to recap...fuck all the cable "news" punditry...I am not playing your stupid FUCKING games.

It's called:

"Ha, ha - you stupid Suckers and Losers!"

Sin-Opsis:
G.O.P. billionaire bros and Russian Komades strut and preen and boast about how they suckered the American public into meekly surrendering democracy,
and submissively bending knees to KristoKrypto-AI-turdo-charged Totalitarianism, Inc.

I also refuse to participate in the destruction of my society.

I also will not expose myself to any possible source of their propaganda.

Rather than blather on about the damage they WILL be doing to social security and medicare/aide, I will devote my support efforts to local non-profit senior aid programs.

I will check on and support my vulnerable neighbors as best that I can.

I will reduce my consumerism to the least humanly-possible engagement with "the economy" (let the corporations feel a little backlash).

They want to fight us down, but what if we simply don't show up to the fight?

Edit to add:

VIVA LA RESISTANCE! I choose to pre-resist rather than pre-obey.

Especially all the "Dems coulda, Dems oughta, Dems shoulda" crap, most of which comes from folks that claim to be on our side.

I am taking the Flea Market "you break it, you own it" approach.

I am shocked that some pundit hasn't suggested that VP Harris would have won, if only she simulated felatio on a microphone.

That is what corporate news and social media has turned our society into. It's become a place where crude and disgusting behavior has become a discussion, not about how deplorable it is, but instead, about which demographic sees microphone felatio as a positive.

That's where our country is today. Kind of makes me sympathize with those that want to burn it all down.

Yep, that's what watching most cable news is like. 95% opinion and 5% actual news. And then you get the same "opinions" repeated all day long. I turned it off after the election and haven't gone back. By that time, I'd already cut down my cable news watching to less than an hour a day, now I can't even stomach that much.

I just moved back to the states after a decade abroad and I can't believe how many Pharma commercials there are! My god. A whole minute of each of them every few minutes, it's disgraceful and why our healthcare insurance is so expensive. Too much advertising.

I have never been a fan of reality shows so I don't watch who wins the rose or the dance contests. I'm just not interested in that. I miss the dramas that used to suck me in and keep me for nearly an hour. But now it's nothing but 5-6 minute segments and then bombarded with more Pharma commercials. It's something we need to demand to change. Outlaw Pharma commercials.

I know some people turn their tv on as soon as they get out of bed, shoot, some before they get out of bed! I don't even have a tv in my bedroom. And they don't shut off the idiot box until they go to bed or their "fall asleep" setting goes off. It's too much folks.

We need to find out why our lives are so overwhelming commercial and how we need to make a change.

I wish congress would do their jobs.

Most people endure the commercials since they don't want to turn off the news. That's how the news shows pay their bills, by loading up on the Big Pharma ads.

For me (I live in western Pennsylvania) we've just been inundated with the most barf-able, annoying political attack ads that I've ever seen in any election cycle. This is something that I blame both sides for, and normally I don't engage in both-sider-ism. I'm so glad this is finally over!

It was non-stop. And many were candidates attacking each other back-to-back. Some were reasonable, many were absolutely outlandish. Yes it's insufferable, and this is why every candidate has to raise $100 million?

I’ve not watched since before the election. It’s good for your health. It will save your mind from the tsunami of micro aggressions on the daily. I have no problem finding news that doesn’t come from them. At least so far.

I don't watch any television where I might see political or pharmaceutical advertising, advertising for automobiles, fossil fuel industry advertising, etc..

Mostly my wife and I watch DVDs or the no-advertising version of Netflix.

"Traditional" advertising supported television created Donald Trump. Traditional television must die.

I quit television news and opinion for their promotion of the war in Iraq. (My wife has never been interested in television news or opinion.)

We quit traditional television entirely in 2012, both cable and broadcast, and have been watching DVDs and subscribing to two or three no-advertising streaming services ever since. I won't subscribe to streaming services such as Hulu that don't offer a no-advertising option. I also block any advertising that moves or makes noise on my computer. If a web site makes it difficult to block such advertising I block the entire site.

A lot of references on MSNBC to people tuning out since the election with the implication that viewers are burned out?

I keep yelling, "maybe they've just decided to take their attention elsewhere because they gave you chance, in some cases a second chance, and you blew it?"
