AlterNet: 'Surefire way of him doubling down': Trump 'prepared to fight' for AG pick despite GOP pushback

AlterNet - 'Surefire way of him doubling down': Trump 'prepared to fight' for AG pick despite GOP pushback

After President-Elect Donald Trump announced that he nominated Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for US attorney general earlier this week, the MAGA leader was met with resistance, even from GOP allies.

As he continues to face allegations of sexual misconduct, the question of whether or not Gaetz violated sex-trafficking laws and had sex with a 17-year-old persists.

The Washington Post reported Thursday:

After the Justice Department dropped its investigation into those explosive allegations in 2023, the House Ethics Committee restarted its probe into Gaetz. Gaetz’s resignation from the House on Wednesday means the committee no longer has jurisdiction over him, but the panel is under increasing pressure to release its findings — including from an attorney representing the woman who has been at the center of the claims.

In a Saturday CNN report, “Despite widespread unease on Capitol Hill about entrusting the Justice Department to” Gaetz — who has “limited legal experience — Trump is determined to move forward with his selection.

“Trump wants Gaetz confirmed ‘100%,’ according to a source who spoke with CNN. “He is not going to back off. He’s all in.”

The incoming president’s ex press secretary Sean Spicer told the news outlet, “Telling Donald Trump something isn’t going to happen is a surefire way of him doubling down.”

2. He doubles down but loses. If the GOP confirm Gaetz for AG they lose the next four elections.

No woman should stand for this. They may as well run Bill Cosby.

3. So you don't tell him. You just grow a fucking spine and JUST DO NOT CONFIRM HIM.

Over and over and over and over.

But Republicans have no spine, they won't resist the spiteful little brat, and they are well out of practice with resistance.

If you don’t confirm Trump’s picks, you are screwed. Gaetz has a BIG warning to those Republicans. Can’t make this up!! Get in line or we will tell dirt on you. Open blackmail.

5. It's a total ploy - he doesn't give a shit about having Gaetz as AG, he's fuckig with us.

He wants Todd Blanche, his personal pit bull attorney, as AG. So he gets his way, either way. Either Gaetz gets confirmed and does whatever Blanche/tsf tell him to or Blanche is the interim and in charge. It's the same end result to him - lapdog sycophants who care nothing about the constitution and will break every law for him.
