Republicans have a choice to make.

The new Congress will be sworn in January 3rd, 2025.

Will they vote the same then as they might vote now? That is an open question, but give Trump 6 weeks to twist their arms and threaten their positions, and everything could be much different on January 3rd.

Mitch McConnell will be gone. John Thune will replace him.

Thune has been a moderate on most issues. Will he go along with Trump demands and requests to nominate someone that can protect and clear his name of criminal charges? That is to be seen.

However, it is different that the Republicans control everything in government and Trump is no longer the threat that he was before the last election. Also, they have JD Vance waiting in the wings. They do not see Trump running for a third term.

They understand that Trump wants an AG that will stop all investigations against him and drop all the criminal charges he has accrued in the last 8 years. That is his primary concern. He does not want to pardon himself and then be challenged in court.

Will the Republicans grant him that one request?

Fascists gonna fascist.

And why does anybody think The Felon will "run" for a third term? Expect him to declare himself president for life, fuggeddabout "elections"--they're so "democratic".... And when he nasties away, just install VD Dunce, and go on fascisting.

He is clearly appointing people whose loyalty is only to him, not democracy or the rule of law. If he is able to gain total control of the military, he will have accomplished his coup in 2028 if he says he is staying in office. I may well be wrong that his goal is permanent power, but it sure looks that way.
