Poland Scrambles Jets During Russia's Missile Attack On Ukraine: Army
This is the headline from an article in Barron's dated 11/17/24 originally sourced from AFP. Of note is the first part of the article which states "Poland said it had scrambled fighter jets and mobilized all available forces on Sunday in response to a "massive" Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine.
"Due to a massive attack by Russia, which is carrying out strikes using cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones against sites located, among other places, in western Ukraine, operations by Polish and allied aircraft have begun," Poland's Operational Command posted on social media platform X.
Also of note is that Moldova indicated that the missiles had violated it's air space. So let this all sink in. The entire military of Poland has been mobilized. Although Moldova is constitutionally neutral they have drawn closer to Europe and NATO since 1992 when they joined the North Atlantic Cooperation Council and as recently as 2023 their political leaders have said there needs to be serious discussion about these matters.
The huge missile attack against Ukraine follows the previous days of phone calls from some leaders to Putin. So if they somehow thought their calls would somehow be met with a sincere willingness to change they were fools as many thought. Putin perceived it as a cracking of the solidarity of support and certainly his puppet coming into power in the US is being taken by him as a signal that his aggression will be rewarded after all with more land grabbed by aggression and more money for himself and his oligarchs.
But it may not come without yet paying a price. Biden has authorized Ukraine to use US supplied long range missiles to strike anywhere in Russia. This is a big deal. One of the top Russians has blustered about flirting with provoking WW3. It should be noted that Russia has made statements like this fairly often since its invasion of Ukraine.
So at a time when we need strength and resolve here in the US leadership we have the incoming control and their open embrace of the butchers in Moscow, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere. Sort of gives one the feeling of dread that so many in Europe had when Neville Chamberlain played the fool.
I know many of us probably saw the photo of the Orange Ruski and President Biden at the White House the other day with Joe smiling. Maybe he knew he was going to give someone a price to pay on the way out the door. Good for him.
