NJ-GOV: Sherrill has mammoth $600k one-day fundraising haul

Rep. Mikie Sherill (D-Montclair) raised over $600,000 in her first 24 hours as an announced candidate for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, qualifying for matching funds under the state’s public financing program in just one day.

Sherrill formally announced her run for governor yesterday, nearly two weeks after winning a fourth term in Congress.

Candidates need to raise $580,000 to qualify for matching funds — New Jersey offers $2 for every $1 raised – with a $185,000 deductible. That gives Sherrill roughly $1.25 million to spend on her primary campaign so far.

By accepting matching funds, candidates agree to a $8.7 million spending limit in the primary and a $5,800 contribution limit.

I think we stand an excellent chance of holding onto the gubernatorial office in NJ.

Here's a pic of the candidates for governor, both Dem and republican.

Top row: Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, former Senate President Steve Sweeney, and State Sen. Jon Bramnick. Middle row: Rep. Mikie Sherrill, New Jersey Education Association President Sean Spiller, radio host Bill Spadea, and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. Bottom row: former State Sen. Ed Durr, former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, and Rep. Josh Gottheimer.

And I'm firmly in the Spiller camp. Already maxed out the primary donation.

Did you receive Spillers District focused mailers in the lead up to Nov 5th?
He did the same thing Phil did in 2016 - put his name and candidacy on mailers for Harris, Kim, and Altman in the 7th district.

Massive flex. I think this one is going to come down to Newark, Jersey City, Patterson, Camden, Elizabeth. Black and brown folks (myself included) are looking to retaliate.

ETA - My post wasn't negative - it was realistic. Boots on the ground and door to door messaging is how it gets done.
