The 'now they're going to find out' argument is flawed

https://www.editorialboard.com/the-now-theyre-going-to-find-out-argument-is-flawed/

There’s an argument I want to discuss. It goes something like this: Donald Trump’s policies are going to alienate some of the people who voted for him. To be sure, many of them wanted something done about the economy. Prices were too damn high. But they didn’t sign up for tariffs, deportations and cuts to social services, like food stamps.

As a liberal pundit put it, Trump seems poised to follow through with that policy agenda, though going through with it is “political suicide.”

My question is why.

Why are we expecting so much from Trump voters? I’m not making a distinction between his base and those who chose to go along for the ride. I mean all of his supporters, and I’m asking: Why should we place our democratic faith, and the future of the republic, in their hands?

It’s not like Trump had an agenda to bring down the cost of living. All he said was “Make America Great Again.” Deport “illegals.” Suppress transgender rights. Beat down weak and marginalized folks. Voilà!

His one economic plan was tariffs. A tax on imported goods from China and elsewhere will raise prices on everything, not just imports, as retailers will price-gouge under cover of inflation. Tariffs are the opposite of what you do to reduce costs. And that’s why he lied. Trump said nations would pay the tax, not companies bringing goods in.

His voters chose to believe him.

Where nobody cares if they don’t have anything so long as minorities aren’t getting anything either. When integration came to AL they filled in all of the public swimming pools rather than share them with “those” people.

. . . the "segregation academies" that are alive and doing quite well in most of the Southern states.

In my native county of Wilkinson County, MS, there are two "segregation academies" -- Centreville Christian Academy and Wilkinson County Christian Academy -- while the local and county school systems are 100% Black. At the "Christian academies" there are usually 1, 2, 3, 4 black faces -- all of whom are the star quarterback or running back or track star.

Back in late 1990's, when public schools in the South were grudgingly integrating, the "segregation academies" were mostly up to 8th grade after which White kids had to go to school with "those people." Wife's cousin and his family visited us with a teenaged daughter who was going to -- in September -- move out of her lily White school into an integrated public high school. This was the sole topic of conversation from them!!! The girl waked up every morning vomiting because she was so terrified of starting school in the fall with "those people." Damn but a few years later she moved to Atlanta and married one of those people!!!!!!!!!!!! When her cousin called my wife in tears because his daughter was marrying one of those people, my wife laughed her ass off. To this day, wife's cousin does not allow his daughter, her Black husband, or their kids to visit; sends them no Christmas gifts; does not recognize any of their birthdays. He calls my wife about once a month -- she always inquires about the daughter and her Black husband and family, pisses off her cousin, he hangs up. Fuck him.

Social Security. Reagan did, to public employees with a pension who had also worked in jobs covered by Social Security. And during Trump's last term he suspended the payroll tax which funds Social Security for several months.

About Trump, imagine all of them FOX-lite. Then the social media controlled by MUSK, there truth will be revealed what MUSK wants them to know.

So, when all your sources of information are suspect - what is truth, what is a lie? Critical Thinking will be challenged by the lack of objective information.

Because we Democrats tend to view the world through rose-colored glasses -- we think "it can't be that bad," "MAGAts will see the light and vote for Democrats in 2026," "he can't damage the foundations of America," "we will clean house in 2026." -- and similar self-deceptive horseshit.

Which is why I have turned off CNN and MSNBC -- they have now joined the long line of those just waiting to kiss Trump's ass and get his blessing.

I ordered, they arrived today, and I'm putting them on all my vehicles -- decals that read "FDT" -- "Fuck Donald Trump." Decal of Calvin pissing on Trump for my truck's rear window (just below my decals that read "Vietnam Vet," "Ranger," "Airborne," "US Army Retired." bumper stickers that read "Not My President" and "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Harris."

I've already been confronted by some MAGAts at the grocery and hardware stores in my little red rural VA county. After they raved and gloated for a few minutes, I told them to fuck off. Meanwhile, I'm carrying concealed -- Sig Sauer P365.
