Dr. Oz in charge of Medicare and Medicaid???

Despite having a career that enveloped heart surgery and alternative medicine, Oz changed the trajectory of his career.

In 2010, Oz joined Jeff Arnold as co-founder of Sharecare, Inc.[49][50] In 2015, a group of 10 physicians demanded Columbia remove Oz from the faculty for his alleged "disdain for science and for evidence-based medicine".[51][52][53][54] Columbia defended Oz and dismissed calls for his termination, saying that they are "committed to the principle of academic freedom and to upholding faculty members' freedom of expression".[55] Oz responded to the call, saying "I bring the public information that will help them on their path to be their best selves" and that his show provides "multiple points of view, including mine, which is offered without conflict of interest."[56]

In May 2022, Columbia University cut ties with Oz and removed his presence from their website.[57][58][59]

Medicare is a federal health insurance program that helps people pay for medical expenses. It's available to most people who are 65 or older, and some people under 65 with certain disabilities or conditions. IOW, medical billing and finance for seniors.

My father was a cardiologist and an internist. Kept patients alive into their nineties. A credit to his profession.

However, he knew nothing about running his medical practice. He hired nurses who became experts in forms for Medicare as the majority of his patients were geriatric. When one threatened to quit her job, he was ready to retire immediately. That's how much he was dependent on keeping those forms processed.

My point, while I don't actually know, I feel pretty sure "Dr. Oz" has no clue how to run a federal agency that oversees Medicare, let alone fill out a Medicare form. He won't be able assess if his underlings are doing their jobs. If they don't do their jobs (intentionally or by incompetence), thousands of seniors face a cut-off of necessary medical care and/or bankruptcy. And outrage as their Medicare funding was removed from their paychecks and 1040s for decades and won't be applied to them.

These cabinet secretaries and department heads aren't being appointed to "run" these agencies or even to find "efficiencies". Their goal is to destroy or at least to cripple while simultaneously ensuring that available funding is diverted to individuals and corporations that can pervert the department's mission and make a buck. You don't think that companies offering, for instance, Medicare Advantage plans aren't salivating at the chance to move millions more to high cost/low service plans?

is that most of the Medicare benefits, rules, etc., have a strong foundation in law, meaning Congress will have to change them for anything drastic to happen.

I am hopeful that fools like Oz will just be a figure heads that come out whenever trump wants to hold court (ie, a yuk yuk cabinet meeting) or at a press conference.

People with fighting red tape in some states and getting their Medicaid approved.

(Missouri is a hot mess with Medicaid. No rhyme or reason as to who is approved or even the order of approvals. Don't get me started.)

Anyway, with Oz in that dept doing his damndest to screw with federal funding I'm very afraid for my job. Someone recently offered me a job working with disability but I don't think that's any more secure.
