https://www.healthcare.govKey dates to get Marketplace coverage next year:
November 1, 2024: Open Enrollment starts first day you can enroll in, renew, or change Marketplace plans.
December 15, 2024: Last day to enroll in or change plans for coverage to start January 1.
January 15, 2025: Open Enrollment ends last day to enroll in or change Marketplace plans for the year with coverage starting February 1.
My premise:
After taking office, the incoming administration can stop the enrollment process for 2025. Canceling the insurance of someone already enrolled may be more complicated due to the involvement of the healthcare giants - United Health Care, Blue Cross etc.

(1,565 posts)by the ACA (as we are) would be an obvious breach of contract and would be the subject of a massive class-action lawsuit. We're already set up for next year.

(18,008 posts)I was laid off in June. While I stayed on COBRA for 10 weeks until I found another job with benefits, I very easily could have needed ACA (definitely in 2025). My wife has preexisting conditions that would make getting insurance difficult (I am 61 and very healthy after keto and losing 160#, but my wife is diabetic with several issues).
My plan was to work to 68 when my wife would be eligible for Medicare. It this stage I pray my new employer will need me until the cemetery workers throw dirt on my coffin. I am not leaving a job with benefits ever unless it is to go to another job with benefits.
A lifetime of paying into Medicare and Social Security, and there is a chance that it will be taken away from me. I am already working for little benefit when it comes to the SS formula since I already have 35 strong credited years and am making 30% less that I was when "retired" by my previous employer.

(161 posts)do yourself a favor and switch to real Medicare right now. Don't want another year. They make kill any new enrollments before then. And when they do, every medical decision in your future will be made by a clerk in a for-profit company, where nobody has any medical expertise. Worse yet, those clerks will soon be replaced by AI. It will be the easiest AI app ever developed because it mostly just has to say "no".
