Economists Predict Increased Chance Of Rise In Inflation Because Of Trump's Policies
According to a new poll released today by Reuters, an overwhelming majority of economists now believe that Donald Trump's economic agenda will lead to a rise in inflation in America. The poll surveyed 67 economists, 57 of whom said that the risk of inflation resuming or increasing in 2025 has now risen because of Trump's proposed tariffs that could be implemented as soon as he takes office.
44 of the 51 economists also stated that the tariffs policy will have a significant impact on the United States economy. Despite this, Reuters notes that the Federal Reserve still plans to cut interest rates one additional time before Trump takes office, but will likely do so at a lower rate than expected given the threat of increased inflation.
Americans are already seeing the impacts of Trump's economic policy, and he has not even taken office. Just this week, both Walmart and Lowes signaled that they will have to raise prices on consumers if the tariffs policy takes effect.
Trump is planning on instituting a tariff on all foreign goods, with an increased tariff on goods coming in from China. The overwhelming amount of goods sold in stores like Walmart and Lowes come from China, and as a result of the tariffs, Americans will have to pay more when they go to stores.
