On ANYTHING.
This has been and continues to be an issue. It's a large part of why we lost our Republic.

(33 posts)Why are they smiling and acting as if everything is ok?? We are about to look like Hungary in January and they aren't even fighting back or even demanding a recount.

No need to ask why some feel abandoned, this is the reason. Sadly, it's not new.

(972 posts)These nominee picks are crazy even for Senate Republicans. Let them deal with the fallout first.
I hope (but Im not optimistic) that Dems are making plans away from the cameras right now.

So crazy.
These picks for cabinet are so insane that no one can defend them. Like practically every one of them has a sex crime to their name.
And it was immediate chaos. Not even for one second did things seem calm and in control.
So yeah, wouldnt you stay quiet, too, if your adversary was self immolating? Damn, I sure would.

(44,620 posts)They're confirming judges as fast as possible.
They're speaking out against Trump's nutty appointees, demanding to see the Gaetz report, etc.
They're using as much of the appropriated Infrastructure Act funds as they can before Trump takes over.
They're filling other vacancies that Trump can't reverse.
I'm seriously curious -- what would you rather they do?

(5,943 posts)They are shoving judges into the system as fast as they can go.
The party seems kind of headless right now. I don't see any harm at all in thoroughly investigating to make sure those vote counts in battleground states are accurate. After the aggressiveness that the other side showed in 2020, we could at least do that much if for no other reason than to confirm the accuracy of American elections.
I'm plenty frustrated and angry right now, angry that we have to accept the results of an election won by pure ignorance and hate. I'm angry that our justice system failed to prosecute a criminal who committed crimes against the American people because it has been fixed in favor of the rich and powerful and under a constitution where everyone's rights are supposed to be equally protected, mine are not as equal as that of a rich, loudmouthed Republican former President because it is heavily stacked in his favor and even though Democrats were supposed to be in charge of the Justice department, our hand picked attorney general, rewarded with the position because the other party snatched the seat he should have gotten on the Supreme Court away from him, was too incompetent, slow, and lacking in courage to follow through by enforcing the law and prosecuting the criminal. And between now and January, all he will have accomplished is to waste our tax dollars for three years on absolutely nothing. At the very least he could use the power of his office, and the Presidency, to force a quick trial to get a verdict in the Jan 6 trial. Otherwise, we, the people, have been screwed on that one.
You speak for me.

(3,814 posts)aside from working to derail some of the more dangerous cabinet picks like Gaetz, Gabbard, RFK, Hegseth.
Luckily we won 4 senate seats in swing states Trump won - otherwise the Senate margin would be way worse. The way it is (47 Dems) we just need 4 Repubs to derail any nomination. It's not going to be easy to get those 4, but it's much easier than having to get 6 or 7.

Our only hope is to derail the picks that are freakishly bad, by getting a few R dissenters to join in with us in opposition.

(5,467 posts)And trying to read here is a bit crazy to be honest with so many reposts on the same thing and everything mish moshed together etc.
I doubt they are going to do anything about major things- there will be no recount, except the minor races, there will be no actions against the psycho in any of his trials. The j6 case is being closed. I expected a lot of this to happen and said it many times and I was told what a fool I was.
I think they are doing things in terms of appointing judges, perhaps investigating the nominations for the cabinet, etc. whatever else they are doing behind-the-scenes we are not privy to. I think the nominees will mostly all be appointed anyway imo. Im not sure what the judges can really do because ultimately any important cases are going to go to the Supreme Court who will just approve of whatever psycho wants
But I havent really heard anyone say very much at all. They were already congratulating psycho the day after the election and B was inviting him to the White House, which made me physically ill.
As far as Im concerned, democracy is dead here, its just in the end phases. I guess in time were going to see how bad it will get. Im still hoping for some divine intervention of some kind. I wonder if anyone has taken any steps to protect our national & intelligence interests from psycho and crew and E.

(4,484 posts)Why aren't they meeting and trying to figure out how to stop this?

(4,845 posts)How would we know they are?
That's the thing. IF there's anything they can do, anything, they would be foolish to talk about it publicly. Should they just blab any plans to make us feel better, so the fascists can shut them down before whatever there is has a chance to work?
There could be nothing, or there could be something, but we aren't going to know until it happens. Or doesn't.
The best thing WE can do is organize locally and be ready to RESIST. IF Democratic leaders are planning anything, they will need at least that much from us. And if they don't know what to do, we organize and resist anyway. BE READY to do whatever you can, and hope our leaders have a plan.
But I don't think we should expect to see any plans made public. That could spell disaster for said plans. IMHO.

(4,484 posts)I guess its because Dumpy and his gang arent shy about telling us what THEY are going to do. Maybe if they knew there would be legal pushback by Dems they have would look weaker. I dont know. Im just praying SOMETHING can be done. Democracy Forward has come out with their plan to fight legal battles. Just like magats do to tie up the cases against Dumpy.
Silver Gaia
(4,845 posts)but if it were me, I wouldn't be broadcasting anything major right now. Some things are best as traps sprung in secret. I'm just saying I don't think we should expect them to be sharing anything like that right now. In normal times, I might feel differently, but these are not normal times.
There are many on our side who are working on ways to tie things up in legal battles, like you mentioned, and that is good reason to take heart.
And yes, I hear you. THEY tend to put whatever they are planning out there for public consumption, but that is mostly because Trump is a blabbermouth. When it happens, that is good for us, though. We don't need to do the same and give them any more advantage than they already have. IMHO.
Our role as "we, the people" is to not be silent, though. We need to be loud and clear, shoulder to shoulder, a wall of resistance. We must do whatever we can do to be that, and as I see it, we have to be strong. I know how hard that is. I struggle daily. But despair is what they WANT us to feel. Our fear is their joy. I can't, and I won't, give them that.
I keep thinking of these words from Dune:
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
I'm not saying you are giving into fear and despair, but some of us are. I just think we need to consider that maybe there won't be a "knight in shining armor" plan rise up to save us, or maybe there will be. We just cant know which it is right now. OUR best plan is to do our best to be ready for either possibility. Resist.

(4,845 posts)That made me think of an article I read tonight that might be of interest to you. It's an article titled "It's No Time to Be Neutral," written by an American Buddhist monk, Bhikkhu Bodhi. It was shared on Bluesky. I hope it speaks to you, but if not, maybe it will at least speak to someone else who sees this post.
