Raw Story - Ron DeSantis won't appoint Matt Gaetz to Marco Rubio's Senate seat: report

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is not expected to appoint former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-FL) seat after he resigns to become President-elect Donald Trump's secretary of state.
Speculation mounted that Gaetz might be appointed to the Senate seat after he withdrew as Trump's attorney general nominee Thursday.
A source close to DeSantis was "adamant" that Gaetz was not on the list of possible candidates, telling The National Review: "He won't appoint Matt."
The publication said the decision was unsurprising "given the cloud of controversy that surrounds Gaetz."
Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was considered a leading candidate for Rubio's seat. The National Review also named Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez, and DeSantis' chief of staff, James Uthmeier, as possible picks.

(15,701 posts)1. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if DeSantis
Named himself to that seat. He's termed out in the Governor's office and it's a lot cheaper to get to the Senate that way.

Just to fuck with Trump, who he hates. HIGHLY unlikely, but a gal can dream....
