Debit card update.

In this post:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100219731188

I mentioned my debit card being hacked, and the number used by someone for buying shit online.

Well, the hackers are still trying to use the old number, the card is canceled so they can't use it.

The card company, affiliated with Visa, is sending me a new card and my original $200+ is being put on the new card.

I still want to kick the hacker in the nuts.

Now my bank has it locked down hard, so if we are travelling, we have to let them know. Not a big deal and I appreciate them being that way.

Will be preloaded with $1,200 the first of every month. Sounds safe and I get the bonus points. Got a need regular card to. Now I don’t have call and cancel a few accounts I don’t use. Get the card sent to my PO Box in a week or two.
Already have a freeze with all 3 credit services.
Hope it all works hazel free.

I do not use a debit card for these reasons. When my credit cards have been hacked and illegal purchases attempted, it gets flagged and they don’t even allow it to go through unless I approve it. They text me and email me.

Get a low limit credit card and pay it off each month. You'll do two things for yourself:

1. Protect your actual money
2. Help your credit score by paying off your credit card each month

10. My card in the States gets hacked regularly

Every 18 months or so, I have to get a new one. It never comes at a convenient time, either. It has gotten to the point where I call the bank every time I use it so they know it was me and not Kareem Mahmoud from Peshawar or Hackensack buying more video games somewhere in the 5 Boriughs.

in a foreign country stole my friend's debit card number.

HP refused to take responsibility until she started taking info for a complaint to our state AG - an aggressive guy (soon to be governor) who sued trump many times and won.

I use a Marriott credit card & pay off the balance monthly. You get 1 free night a yr which is worth much more than the fee. Also have a Delta Amex; free companion ticket yearly is more than enough to cover the fee.

Banks are just too SLOW to refund your money when you get hacked

16. We don't use our debit cards unless we're standing at the bank's own ATM machine

When I went through my second debit card compromise situation then bank manager told me not to trust anyone other than the bank with my debit card. She went on to say, "With the debit card, you're putting your cash at risk. Use a credit card and if there's a compromise, it's the credit card company's money that's at risk; not yours."

We've followed that advice for the last two years, using our credit card for anything we don't pay cash for; never using the debit card except at the bank's own ATM. We haven't had another compromise.
