I'm kind of encouraged that Trump wasn't able to just bully the Senate to caving for Gaetz.

House members represent smaller, often more ideologically uniform districts. Many GOP House members come from deep red districts, where Trump remains highly popular. This makes them more responsive to Trump's influence and the preferences of his base. Senators represent entire states, including more diverse and moderate voters. Even in red states, there are often purple or swing areas that Senators must consider, making them less beholden to Trump's base alone.

Also, Senators serve six-year terms, giving them more time to distance themselves from day-to-day political pressure or backlash compared to House members, who face reelection every two years. This longer cycle could provides a buffer against short-term political trends, reducing the immediate leverage Trump might have.

Senators, especially those in purple states or up for reelection in competitive races, may distance themselves from controversial figures or actions aligned with Trump's more extreme wing to appeal to a broader electorate. This could explain why Trump might have backed off supporting Matt Gaetz, who is a polarizing figure. Pressuring Senators to align with Gaetz could alienate moderate voters or create internal conflicts within the party.

It seems the broader and more politically diverse constituencies of Senators, combined with their longer terms and institutional norms, generally make them less susceptible to direct pressure or "bullying" from Trump compared to GOP House members from deep red districts. I really hope what just happened with Gaetz is a sign they will try to hold Trump somewhat in check. I bet a lot of GOP Senators don't like Trump. Some may enjoy having a bit of power over him. LOL

and that those reasons won't necessarily apply to the next unqualified yahoo.

But I guess we have to take the wins where we can find them now.
