A lot of people will be hurt, and lives will be destroyed before this is over.
Roy Cohn, Joe mccarthy's henchman attorney was the sociopath's mentor.

(101,988 posts)And move onto his next targets. We should have risen up as one and blown his sorry ass to smithereens. What happened in Crimea should have been a wake up call that douchebag was bad news. Instead half of the country is not only *FOR* Putin, they actively called the *OTHER* side the Nazis (seriously... WTF???) and are cheering him on. We may not recognize the world in 4 years.

(26,292 posts)It makes us negotiate against ourselves.
It runs thorough the legislative calendar.
It waters down and even wrecks large portions of the agenda.
It makes us look both ineffective and rudderless.
It saps our side"s enthusiasm.
It drags things out in a way that allows opposition to organize, fester, and grow.
It forces us into moving goalposts which generates a muddled and confused perception of our efforts.
It allows the enemy to both fight every step tooth and nail as well as to steal credit for whatever makes it through the gauntlet.
The worst part is that there is only downside.
We do not gain votes in this exchange, we lose them.
And most of our allies will say nothing about that until trump is gone. Meanwhile they "wait and see" and know that while they might trust the majority of Americans, it's still the nation-state's baked in structural problems of elections, dark money finance, and governance that they can't trust, even once a trustworthy administration replaces this one.
It will take the world a long time to recover from, or forgive America for, the damage this voting block and this administration cause to world stability.

(1,743 posts)unfortunately it appears it will require a disaster for people to get it.
1)That votes have consequences and you can't take them back.
2 )That you can't vote on a whim or a hunch or the last ad you heard or a single issue. You have to do your own research.
3) Highly produced ads often don't have anything to do with the truth. Listen to the candidate give a speech or an interview. Or many.
4) Shaking things up isn't a solution. It generally makes just about anything worse. Would you do that to your personal finances, your electrical wiring, your plumbing, your marriage (if you want to keep it), your brain surgery, your kid, a kitten....
5) Voting for change isn't a solution. You have to know what kind of change. Is it better change or worse change. Pro-tip: Most change is for the worse. Choose your change carefully.
6) The Vice President is not the president. He/She doesn't control the president's actions or policies, and can't criticize them while acting as VP. You have to take the time to check his/her past record. The VPs, not the president's. The president isn't running.
7) When a party says for decades they want to cut or destroy social security and medicare, it might not be a good idea to give them 3 branches of government. Unless you are uber rich.
8) You paying into Social Security all you lives does not protect you from the desire of the uber rich to steal it
9) Billionaires on average do not understand your pain. No matter what they say. Even the nice ones, but especially not the mean ones.
10) When the richest man in the world says it's fun to find ways to cut spending and insists we all need to accept some pain to get spending under control, that means he wants to use your retirement as a piggy bank to fund Billionaire tax cuts for money they can't spend except to gain power over more of your rights. Because he can't get his own spending under control.
11) There is no end to the pain these oligarch sociopaths can inflict on masses of people without any understanding or compassion for those affected.
12) The oligarchs are mentally ill. They never have enough money or power, and think it will fill the hole where love is supposed to be. Your love wont pay the bills but it makes you better and richer than them anyway.
13) Moderation in all things doesn't apply to all things.
14) When someone quotes the most horrible, notorious Fascist in history, that's probably who he is. If you hand him power, that fact that the worst is unthinkable won't stop it from happening.
15) Retribution will include people you know and admire. Whoever you are. It won't be reserved for those you hate.

(52,291 posts)My hand made anti-tRump earrings are very, very popular in my very blue area of San Diego. I made them in 2016 but when Covid came the straps on the masks got caught in my earrings so I retired them until this year and they broke! Damn!!!
So I made a new pair (even better than the last) and they get tons of positive feedback.
Since the election the compliments have tripled. I get at least 3 compliments at every store and stop I make in my area.
Apparently many Dem voters will not forget either. They are more pissed off than ever. I use the feedback from my earrings to collect info on the current popular opinions, sort of an informal poll on the spot.

Using visuals is the way I make my voice heard. I have many protest signs from the last time tRump was in office. They always get a lot of attention.
I guess 4 years earning my degree in Illustration at Parsons in NYC was useful after all.

(6,651 posts)It was so shocking that I had a hard time accepting it. Then we find out that the voters were the most uninformed in our nation's history. We need for rich left leaners to step up and help to provide some balance. When Air America was on we did have some balance. Those on the right bought out the stations and changed the formats. The fight needs to start with a vehicle to get our message out.

I have always been a bit of a misanthrope, but that has sealed the deal for me. And honestly, many Americans are simply not likable people. Many of them are stupid, selfish, and just worthless.

Nothing changes, everything stays the same. I wish an enormous meteor would nail the planet and destroy everything. Only then will the innocent plants and animals (which deserve life) will start from scratch and hopefully humans will not be a part of the picture this time around.
Human males have killed for power for thousands of years, fueled by greedy, power hungry hate filled men. Not women, MEN! Religions and cultures around the globe have been doing this since humans stood upright. It is time start over without "people". People suck, testosterone sucks even more.

(37,922 posts)yesterday and it was shocking how few people voted. I live in a county that has both extremes--extremely low income and extremely high. The high income town was the richest town in America for a while: in that town there was a precinct where 73% of the people voted.
But in the same county, there was a precinct where no one voted: yep, 0%. It was a low-income area in Newark.
I read the rest of the figures and it seemed like about 53% of people voted. That is pitiful. When you think about what people have sacrificed for our right to have our say in how this country is run, it actually makes me want to cry.

I want to rub it in their faces in the fact when Tump and his traitors start raping this country, its people including Trump voters, killing migrants, deporting US citizens, hear them crying about their Applebee's hamburger is now $30 dollars and an up charged for French fries, hits their pocket book, that they choke on their ignorance and racism.

(543 posts)intelligent enough not to shoot themselves in the foot. Then more than half the voting public elected Trump. Ok, shocked me, but I figured there were some who were just taking a chance on him. Then they re-elected him, after all the shit he did during his first term. (9,808 posts)I got mine. I had a safe, legal abortion, which meant I was not tied for life to a worthless deadbeat who ended up abandoning the two children he had later. I went on to have a great life. Worked in advertising, traveled the world for work, alone, and with friends. Saved and invested well, built up my social security by working for 50 years straight. Inflation wont be fun, but Ill be fine. Im ready for it.
Why should I give a rats ass about some ignorant hicks who are going to end up raising their teenage daughters baby? Or the Latino who voted for Trump and ends up on the bus? Or the white lady who voted for Trump to hurt those other people, and ends up bleeding out in a parking lot? Why should I care if overtime goes away? Or student loan forgiveness? Or childhood inoculations are suddenly discouraged?
I can just stay here in my beautiful city by the bay, sip cappuccino in a sidewalk cafe, and never give a single thought to to the Wal-Mart shoppers who cant afford cereal or school clothes for their kids.
And maybe I will. If people are too stupid to look out for themselves, why should I care?
Yes, the innocent victims, I know. The young girls who WILL be stuck with the worthless deadbeat. And maybe they will win in the end. Not sure yet. At the moment disgust and not giving a shit are ahead by several lengths.
