The federal government has paid SpaceX some $20 billion since 2008. The largest awards were for taking astronauts to and from the International Space Station, and resupplying the ISS. SpaceX has also won contracts to build a lunar-landing vehicle, and provide launch services to the Defense Department, among others.
Now this guy is going to come in and start slashing government programs, probably a lot of programs that provide support to children, the elderly, the sick, the disabled, and the poor. So it is not government waste when Musk makes billions off of the backs of tax payers, but it is government waste when you want to feed a kid or help out a poor or elderly person. Musk should give all of his government money back to the taxpayer then.

(5,581 posts)Since he is not a citizen how is he allowed to have a position in this administration?
Edit, I just looked up that he is a citizen now but I believe he was here illegally for a while maybe?

(209 posts)Government work and contracting is fine. Musk is exploiting the US Government for multi-billion dollar profit and now plans to slash programs. That is different from your average government worker or contractor.

(18,781 posts)The fact Musk was the CEO should not be part of the calculation.
But if Musk starts slashing programs that provide services to citizens, then he needs to be held responsible.
Companies that provide products and services that he heads should not suffer if they continue to do what they promised to do.

(6,221 posts)When I worked for clinics that were funded by the government or had government contracts - that was a big deal. Yearly training videos on avoiding waste and snitching on co-workers that engage in waste. LOL. Yes photocopying pictures your kid needs for his book report is waste and it should be reported. Wasting photo copy paper is a no no.
I remember the conversations we had in the office about taking toilet paper home during the beginning phase of Covid. Running joke, but possibly a fireable offense.
So yeah, who looks into the Musk books to make sure that they are not overcharging or wasting?

The only reason any of them are on his coat tails is grift and greed. All of them. Just follow the money... if you can.

Edit to add that not every government contractor is a scam artist. If the best company to do the job just happens to know Trump and is paid fairly for work well given... I don't consider that theft. That's how it should be.
