I can't skim through any of the headlines anymore. Maybe we should have a "Good News" only forum?
I suppose not at this time. Maybe sometime in the future or on another planet.
Or some other universes perhaps.
I applied for my first ever passport. I expect to receive it in a few weeks. Haven't yet decided where or when I'd go, just so I have one when that moment arrives. Unfortunately, it won't get me far from this shit since it's not exactly "local" to the U.S. given who "we" are.
Although in past fascistic regimes, I had entertained the notion of "fleeing" the country, under Bush/Cheney, Bit I still harbored enough hope and resistance in me to get me through mentally and emotionally. This is different. In a way I could never have imagined, not even under Bush.Cheney.
I just read a headline about MSNBC, I inferred from it that it's shutting down operations.
Well all of them should, imo. I read that the owner is replacing it with something they're calling "spin" or similar. I thought: how appropriate.
But still, that's pretty significant even though I haven't watched any of their crap for years., as a steady diet since I "cut the cord" well over a decade ago.
If there are any Good News, I don't want to miss those. But I won't comb through LBN , General Discussion or glance at the Home page for any, because the informational assault is extremely harmful to my mental health.
This is where I'm today, and I'm fairly certain I'll be in this "place" for the next several years, given the circumstances we have found ourselves in.
Links to Good News. would be lovely. Thank you in advance.

(2,225 posts)My family is doing well, all are healthy and achieving in their own ways. It may not be summer anymore, but it's not -15. We have 2 more months of the Biden Presidency. We will likely take complete command of congress in 2 years. Biden nominated judges are being approved at a fast pace. I get to spend valuable time with my extended family and friends next week. We have plenty of money for the necessities like food and shelter. We have little debt to burden us. Everyone in the family has stable employment. I don't have any enemies. I was fortunate enough to be born in the USA where I am free and I'm glad for that every day.
In my view, every day that I wake up again is good news, and I feel both fortunate and blessed for everything that has been afforded to myself and my family, even those things that were awarded us by chance alone.

(7,824 posts)I have granddaughters with potentially bright futures, still in high school, but one is preparing for her college entry exams. Fortunately, their dual citizenship has been in process before this election. O do not see a bright future for them, given their gender. They will be dealing with a fascists fundamentalists Supreme Court which is very determined to strip their rights and safety.
So they'll likely be headed for Holland, although I'm concerned about Putin's agenda for that part of Europe. Fortunately for them, they have family ties there, and they learned to speak Dutch since they were infants. I don't speak Dutch, but hopefully I'll be able to travel there for visits.
I'm a senior, and low income. I don't have the financial stability you have. I am now feeling quite insecure about subsidized housing that's keeping me sheltered and safe.
I'm feeling quite insecure now about my Medicare and Medi-cal health insurance subsidies.
As far as the elections in two years, I will not be banking on it with this regime installed.
I do have my music, which is one of the few things in my daily life I focus on with my band mates and musicians in my community. That keeps me focused, and apart from family, it's about the only thing I can count on to maintain a moderately "happy" place.
I'd like to be optimistic about the "next election". It's rather hard at the moment.

(2,225 posts)is life, and mine is far from perfect just like everyone else. I just insist on focusing on what is good, and I only deal with problems when they actually become a real problem that I can do something about. There is a lot of doom predicting regarding Trump, and if I were the betting type, I'd say 95% of it is media and political BS, and a whole lot of Trump BS. That doesn't change the fact that he's an a-hole, but most of it is off the scale ridiculous. But trying to predict what could go wrong only wastes energy, and causes unnecessary stress. That would include all of the things we *think* Trump might do. Until they are actual problems, there is nothing in my control that can be done except worry, and I refuse to waste brain cycles on those things. It accomplishes nothing, and ruins one of the valuable days of my life that I should instead either be enjoying the best I can, or by helping someone else not so blessed. I've been there, and I don't forget how difficult life can be sometimes.
Just remember, mid-terms are almost reliably predictable, and Democrats will most likely gain the upper hand. Look outside and make your day better by appreciating the awesome world we live in. Think about what life would be like right now were we born 500 years ago. It may seem like purposeful detachment, but that's because it is. Only deal with the real problems that are affecting your life, and only use your energy on the things you can change. We did what we could on voting day, and we will again when time rolls that around for us again if we are blessed enough to still be here when it comes.

I'll go post it in Good News.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced on Wednesday that students with family income below $200,000 can expect to attend the Cambridge institution tuition-free starting next fall.
The bulk of American households meet this income threshold, according to the university, which says the new policy will cover 80% of its incoming classes.
Additionally, students whose family income is below $100,000 will see their entire MIT experience paid for, including tuition, housing, dining, fees and an allowance for books and personal expenses.
Maybe I'll go into the tutoring business to help students get into MIT.
MIT does not provide "an admissions advantage" to the children of alumni or donors. The tuition-free financial aid initiative is made possible by "generous gifts made by individual alumni and friends" of the university,
Nice friends!

(7,824 posts)I'm passing on the MIT link to my daughter.
Thank you!
And best of luck.
I'm in the Sierra Foothills right now.
I grew up in the Boston area.
If it's on the entrance exam, the Harvard Bridge (that goes to MIT, of course) is 364.4 smoots, give or take an ear long.
