Elon Musk is so excited to start his new gig ruining the federal government that hes getting an early start by goading his millions of followers to cyberbully government employees.
This week, Musk took aim at Ashley Thomas, the director of climate diversification for the U.S. International Finance Corporationa highly technical role that involves developing ways of securing agriculture and infrastructure against extreme weather, one agency official told The Wall Street Journal.
After a right-wing troll account posted on X drawing attention to Thomass position, Musk reposted it, noting that there were So many fake jobs. Ironic, coming from a CEO.
Speaking of fake jobs, last week, Donald Trump announced that Musk would be co-heading the Department of Government Efficiency, an advisory board set on slashing the government budget by a trillion dollars, hoping to cut personnel and essential government services
so they can be snatched up by government contractors or outsourced to private companies
owned by billionaires
like Musk.
Musks decision to sic his millions of X followers on a specific individual, whose only crime seems to be having a job that Musk in all his infinite tech bro wisdom doesnt understand, isnt just cruel, its dangerous.

I'm sure Texas power grid is one example where protection against extreme weather might come in handy. There are other examples in places with lots of wildfires or hurricanes.

(491 posts)There is a lot of waste and fat in Fed Government. We'd all like our tax dollars spent wisely. The Republicans just don't fully realize how this will affect them too. /Popcorn indeed.

Take your fictional "non-government department department" and shove it where it belongs, Elon.

The Federal government is stocked with expertise and science.
The Trump administration destroying it is a feature, not a bug.
Putin wants US govt to be idiotic and divisive.
Billionaires / Heritage wants all expertise to be privatized and profit-seeking.
The agency that this woman works for is responsible for projects all over the world to provide US expertise or assistance which supports US strategic interests.
Its been a strategy that ensured US domination for a century. But now we can cede it to the Chinese or the Russians. The Chinese are a bit economically challenged right now, but they have been undertaking large projects in many parts of the world to increase their influence. To a smaller extent, true with the Russians as well.

(16,651 posts)This gives insight into the value of this organization to US strategic interests. Some of it are loan guarantees. These types of projects are small investments that support the ability of the US to influence local governments, prevent climate-driven mass migration and wars, develop industrial capability or raw materials that the US deems that it needs for the future.
US corporations are almost always benefiting from these investments, as loans are given for development to happen that uses US companies to lead construction or to consult on the projects, or to benefit from the raw material output.
