Thanksgiving Dinner Prices Fall To Lowest Point In Decades

Despite all of the misinformation spread by Republicans in Donald Trump's orbit, we are now learning that Thanksgiving is at its most affordable point in years. According to a nationwide survey of grocery prices prepared by the American Farm Bureau Federation, the cost of this year's Thanksgiving meal is now at its lowest level since 2021.

And, when adjusted for inflation, the numbers get even better. According to that same organization, 2024 now is the cheapest Thanksgiving meal in nearly 40 years:

“If your dollar had the same overall purchasing power as a consumer in 1984 … this would be the least expensive Thanksgiving meal in the 39-year history of the AFBF Thanksgiving survey, other than the outlier of 2020"

The current cost of this year's Thanksgiving meal comes in at approximately $58.08 for a 10-person dinner, which represents just about $5.81 per person. That number has fallen 5% just in the past year

Turkey is certainly cheaper. I got one 22 pounder for free and a second 16 pounder for $4. PeaceWave Nov 25 #11

I don't get it, the king was hired so why aren't prices coming down instead of still going up?

No way in hell can you cook a full Thanksgiving meal for 10 people for $58.08. That's propaganda.

"Prices aren't that low, this is pure propaganda!"

"Rosy proclamations that don't align with reality!"

*** four examples quickly and easily posted pointing out that, yes, prices are that low and the only takes not aligning with reality are those claiming they're not ***

WinnDixie had a special, buy $20 worth of groceries and the turkey was $.49 a lb, got a 16lb turkey for $7.84 and spend about $55 on everything else, enough to feed 8 but I do have the pie, cranberry sauce and salad being brought by guests.

A whole turkey breast is THIRTY EIGHT DOLLARS. That's like 10 dollars higher than a year ago and it was already outrageous then.

I paid $35 for an 18 pound turkey today. Admittedly, it was a fresh (not frozen) Butterball (can’t deal with the defrosting anymore), so it cost more. But there is no way I could make Thanksgiving dinner for ten for under $60.
