And the issue is cloaked by the ridiculous wedge issues like trans athletes, immigrant workers, and bibles in schools....
Justice matters.

Stores are going to unisex rest rooms.
The only problem are the men who have not been taught to put the seat down

(32 posts)getting the legacy bathrooms and buildings into ADA compliance, especially in Republican controlled non-profit or public orgs.
Republicans hate complying with the ADA and when they are forced to comply they cut corners or do things on the cheap just to get by because "we don't have any of those people here," or "all this for only 1 person." whiny bs.
In Ohio, for example, in many rural/ small city courthouses, they just dismiss the people with disabilities from jury duty during the voir dire process due to the buildings being out of compliance, rather than comply. "is there anyone here with a disability?" "You are dismissed." I don't think that is a proper solution.
61 million people in the U.S. have a disability (~26%) or 1 in 4 Americans.
Interestingly, in applying UNIVERSAL DESIGN, architects can often ACCOMMODATE both concerns and others such as parents caring for opposite sex children, in bathroom remodels.

(18,925 posts)There are so many government programs that are pathetically underfunded - everything from schools and libraries to public health departments, public housing, and food stamps. Republican politicians bend over backwards to keep them starved for money, and then when they can't adequately meet the needs they were created to meet, Repubs cite those failures of as proof that government programs can't do anything worthwhile snd are therefore a waste of money.

(19,071 posts)Republicans have complained about taxes since Jesus walked the earth. E.g., they don't like paying taxes for schools "because they don't have any kids." That's not a cliché. I lived in the deep south one time and couldn't believe that someone would complain about such a thing. They howled! Can you imagine what kind of society this would be if no one had to pay taxes? It would be total chaos. No stoplights. No road repair. No fill in the blank. There could BE no society without taxes. One either likes civilized society or not. So which is it Republican trolls? Taxes are the reason we have a (somewhat, after this election) civilized society. Taxes are the charge for living and doing business in the USA.
I have always found (and I've been around for a while) Methodists to be pretty good people. (And no, I'm not one).

(568 posts)Money given to the poor goes immediately into circulation - at the local grocery, the local department store, the local Salvation Army store, etc. The poor don't sock that money away in offshore banks or fritter it away on the French Riviera. And their local stores are surely grateful for whatever money their customers can spend, and small businesses grow and can hire more people that way. Do you really begrudge a single mother spending a dollar on the lottery - yet you don't object to overindulged billionaires spending half-a-million for a ten minute ride in a rocket ship.
The billionaires, on the other hand, have contrived things so they pay almost nothing in taxes. They don't make a meaningful contribution to that single mother or her children, to a disabled vet, or a homeless highschool graduate. Their money is hidden in foreign banks and they spend their money on foreign vacations and frills from Paris or Rome. Make them pay something meaningful to the country that enabled their prosperity and everyone will be lifted.

(6,616 posts)It is from The History Channel, and it is called fittingly, 'The French Revolution'. There have been many programs similar to this one, but I thought it was the best one for encapsulating the basics of what happened. It is narrated by that History Channel Staple: Edward Hermann. Make sure you confirm that he is the narrator for confirmation that you have the correct one. Enjoy!
(For those who may not remember that name, he played Herman Munster in the 90s Fox TV movie, 'Here Come The Munsters' and was the video store owner and weird guy in the movie 'The Lost Boys'. But he will forever be known to myself as my hero, FDR, in the mini-series Franklin and Eleanor, and the 'sequel', 'Franklin and Eleanor:The White House Years'. I watched that when it aired in 1976-77. He is so good!)
