from Wikipedia:

The new 13th district includes all of Merced County; most of the population of Madera County; and parts of Stanislaus, Fresno, and San Joaquin Counties. It includes the cities of Merced, Madera, Ceres, Patterson, Lathrop, Chowchilla, Atwater, Coalinga, and Mendota; as well as the southern parts of both Modesto and Turlock.

The new 13th district is considered a Democratic-leaning swing district. Despite that, John Duarte, Republican, was narrowly elected to represent it in 2022. As a result, it was one of 18 districts that would have voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election had they existed in their current configuration but were won or held by a Republican in 2022.

since he was the only one I knew was still being counted..

How far south dies that district go?
If it includes any part of Santa Clara County, it may include the house I gew up in. It had a higher district number than, and irt always went Republican.

The only omway thus changes is if a recount flies the race. That ain't happening with this much of a difference.

As of November 2024, the current party composition in the House of Representatives is:
• Republicans: 222 seats
• Democrats: 213 seats

Hypothetical scenario (if Democrats gain a single seat):

• Republicans: 221 seats
• Democrats: 214 seats

In this hypothetical situation, Republicans would still maintain a slim majority, but the margin would be narrower. Esp with some republican retirements.

The current makeup is (R) 220 & (D) 213 with 2 vacancies

The makeup when the new Congress is seated in January will be (R) 219 & (D) 215 Democrats with 1 vacancy. (Matt Gaetz has already stated he will not take the seat he won and a special election has already been scheduled for it)

This assumes that the Democrats win in CA13 & CA45, the last 2 races not yet official (These both appear to be done deals, though). Also assumes that no results will be changed due to recounts or other reasons. (Highly unlikely any changes happen.)

2 Other Republican House members have been nominated for Cabinet positions. If they are approved, it will take it down to (R) 217 & (D) 215 (at least temporarily until special elections are held).

On Saturday, I heard 29,000 rejected ballots rejected. Both Republicans and Democrats trying to correct the votes for their voters. They have until December 5. Way too close to call yet.

But super excited with Current lead.
