I'm not much of a keyboards player (any more, anyway--I could do a mean Ray Manzarek in my day!), but I never could get that tune right--and I love it, so I DID try!

14. Ill agree the count on that one is a real bitch...its like 6/4 cut or something crazy..

That said, I've been surprised in my adult life at how many otherwise really good musicians and vocalists can't goddamn count to 4 on rhythm lol...

Also, not on him but something sounds off..like that piano is all kinds of out of tune maybe?

4. I finally got it

It took a lot of practice, but I broke it down to note by note and counted it out. Played it very slowly many times until I got it, then was able to play it at normal speed.

2. As a teen, I was treated to the real deal

Vince Guaraldi Lived up the valley from me, and on fair Mill Valley days, he would open the windows and let the wonderful music spill out while he was playing

For a long time, I thought he was just riffing on Cast your Fate to the Wind, then Peanuts splashed and I went, “Ohhh”.

About the same time, he scored an electric harpsichord and REALLY started filling the valley up with cool music.

9. It's a great memory for me, but it was real for my younger sister

She was inspired by it and learned to play Cast Your Fate to the Wind, note for note. It was painfully slow at first, but she slowly sped it up and totally mastered it with all the emphasis and pauses at the right time. Today, she can walk up to any piano and crank it out like a pro.

She did the same thing with Scott Joplin's Ragtime music. Everyone know The Entertainer from the Sting, but the Maple Leaf Rag was our favorite. She has a small repertoire, but all distinctly unique pieces of music.

12. Always brings back a memory

My kid, must’ve been about 7 years old, sat down at a piano in a coffee shop in Sisters, Oregon. We were spending a winter weekend in nearby Black Butte Ranch and had wandered into town to do the tourist thing and decided to get coffee/hot cocoa.

Oldest kid sat down and started playing that song. A worker immediately turned down their background music and everyone just stopped and listened. Kid was flawless. Everyone applauded, then went back to what they were doing.
