Here is an article from DailyKos that describes what i believe is the number 1 reason dems lost this last election. There is constant and overwhelming right wing propaganda pushed on all levels.
The Republicans really seemed to have had a long term strategy while the dems seem to only have GOTV.

(115 posts)5-6 million fewer Democratic voters turning out in 2024 vs 2020 is why we lost. GOTV is all we need because it works. When we show up, we win.

Or maybe the 5-6 million voters just went to the trouble to go to the polls and just didn't turn in a ballot?

Possibly not all voters in the 2020 election that voted Democratic were registered Democrats. Maybe some were Repubs, or Ind who did not vote Democratic this election.
Another possibility is while they may be Democrats, that doesn't mean they could accept voting for a Black Woman for president. Even among Democrats and Left leaning voters there is misogyny and prejudice.
And then you have the less energetic Dems, who thought we had the election in the bag, so didn't bother to get off the couch and go vote.
So does that add up to the 2.5 million difference?
5-6 million fewer turned out total, which is not repudiated by the anecdote that turnout was huge.
FWIW, it was huge in Pittsburgh too. But there's no way to know who it's for. Its a good question, I hope we see some real surgical breakdowns of the polls

(115 posts)TA, I believe that's just for the popular vote. The swing states were razor thin margins in so many cases 😞

(511 posts)We need to have a message that we can get out to people.
Oh totally agreed. I didn't mean to imply we don't have lots to improve on our messaging. We have a beautiful message, we just need people to hear it.
The ads, commercials, slogans, focus groups, all that doesn't seem to actually penetrate the core of workers in America. Whereas podcasts, social media, live events seem to maybe do better?
Just observations! Probably highly flawed lol🙂

(744 posts)Rw floods the zone. They throw everything out there including the most insane. It numbs the mind and makes everything seem suspect. Which then draws folks to what they want to believe or nothing at all.
Some would rather believe immigrants are the reason they aren't more successful or making more money as opposed to the fact that they are uneducated or lack employable skills. And Dems are to blame even when we develop programs and ways for them to educate or reeducate themselves. Still our fault.
And many spend more than their means and want to blame Dems for taxes and price off eggs instead of not blowing all their money on stuff they don't need.

(9,445 posts)Their guy sat on his fat ass for 4 years. No wall! They stole Maga $ from the wall and let Bannon get pardoned by Trump for stealing over $5,000,000. (I don't think the Maga in his prison would like that!)
Our guys created Social Security and they seek to destroy it.
They have never been the friend of working people.
And on and on.

(511 posts)Yet it seemed like because of their extremely loud propaganda their message is what gets across and our message is lost. Its almost like their side, the right wing that is, can say that they came up with Social Security and we didnt and it becomes known as the Social Security plan by the Republicans. We have to get out there with much stronger truth propaganda than what theyre doing or at least match it.

(10,439 posts)Even if they aren't the final candidate in the end, we need constant rallies for four years.
That's the propaganda the right wing uses. AND pay people to show up, and camera people to exaggerate the crowd size. And scream bloody fucking murder if it's not covered on the nightly news!

He believed that was part of her platform,
and he did not like it,
at least he still voted for her.
But how many a little to the right of him did it effect ~just enough~

(6 posts)I really think that a "Billionaires Are Not Your Friends" message could take off. No one likes a bunch of Tech Bros and disgustingly rich people buying their way to power. Elon is not a popular guy with many people. How the hell is this illegal immigrant allowed to decide what our government looks like? If we highlight the massive corruption we're going to see, I think that would appall a lot of people. It's a message that could encompass how affordable housing is being bought up by the rich, how the law treats the rich differently, how they don't pay their fair share of taxes, and what we could have if they did pay their fair share, etc. It's a message young people would understand about how their lives are impacted by the greed of elites.
Since Trump was re-elected, I've been watching (mostly to see what to do with my retirement money) whether Trump is going to go full-on dictator or what. I think it is likely he is entirely in it for money. He'll let Israel flatten Gaza so he can build Trump Gaza, he'll privatize services and get a kick-back or favors, he'll give government contracts to his buddies, etc. It's going to be a crap-show of greed and I think leaning in heavily on that message could really resonate with voters going forward.
