This OP is more about violence than sports. Several brawls took place on our college campuses recently. What is going on out there? Are these melees the result of pressure to succeed, the Trump win, steroids, complete immaturity, or something in the water? The tuition for these schools is pretty high and seven students were criminally charged last week.
1) On Saturday police officers used pepper spray to break up an on-field brawl between Ohio State and Michigan football players in the moments after the Wolverines' 13-10 upset of the No. 2 Buckeyes. The battle lasted nearly five minutes and included coaches from both teams.
2) Another donnybrook erupted between NCAA teams in the Carolinas after NC States 35-30 win over UNC:

3) Last week, Michigan State players begin brawling with Michigan players in the stadium tunnel. Seven were criminally charged:

Sidenote: A fraternity at Michigan State was recently accused of hazing a pledge:

(16,110 posts)everywhere Americans interact with each other.
Less than half the population of voters, in just the right number of states, validated this behavior to the highest office in the land.
You can't "poo-poo" violence on the one hand, while elevating and normalizing it on the other.
You might as well ask why people attended lynchings with their families like it was a community celebration? It's because it was a community celebration.
This is now the normal way to solve differences. The people have spoken!
God help us all. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

(6,359 posts)4 games where this "flag planting" happened with brawls resulting. The gutless NCAA will likely never act however if they did have a spine it should be an automatic $1,000,000 fine to each school for a first offense. 2nd offense gets $5,000,000 and program suspension for one year. 3rd offense is 10 year ban. Furthermore now that the players are "contractors" there should be an ability for the school to recoup the money by holding the players money and bringing legal action for the rest. Also for losses if the program is suspended. So maybe when a player goes and gets the big mega million dollar pro contract he might have a bill to pay for his actions at the university.
I've felt for a long time that now that they all get money they should also get to pay when the cause damage or commit acts that require the university and the cops to have to spend money investigating.

(71,284 posts)...the NCAA is already increasingly irrelevant.
Hit big schools with big fines & they'll withdraw from NCAA & form their own organizations.
Those big schools redirect their dues and the NCAA goes bankrupt in a year.
They are not merely spineless, they're effectively powerless.

(2,530 posts)An old buddy of mine played organized amateur hockey. One fight and the players were banned from the league. I watched them play and sure enough, no fights.
I don't understand the lack of sportsmanship with these NCAA football players. Your solution sounds pretty good. A Du-er wrote basically this is the sign of the times with Trumpf winning.
Many boxers throw slime at each other before the bout, slug it out for ten rounds, then end up hugging each other when the bell rings to end the fight.
