(26,271 posts)The president is expected to announce his decision Sunday night, according to a senior White House official.

By Carol E. Lee and Sarah Fitzpatrick
WASHINGTON President Joe Biden has decided to issue a pardon for his son Hunter and is expected to announce it Sunday night, according to a senior White House official with direct knowledge of the decision.
The decision marks a reversal for the president, who has repeatedly said he would not use his executive authority to pardon his son or commute his sentence. The pardon comes ahead of Hunter Bidens Dec. 12 sentencing for his conviction on federal gun charges. Hunter Biden also is set to be sentenced in a separate criminal case on Dec. 16, after pleading guilty in September on federal tax evasion charges.
The pardon is expected to cover both Hunter Bidens gun charges conviction and guilty plea, the people with direct knowledge of the discussions said.
The senior White House official said Biden decided over this weekend to grant his son a pardon and began to inform his senior aides on Sunday.

(10,900 posts)some kind of extra-legal witch hunt.
If Trump sics his DOJ on them, it will be a pain in the ass for them, but I seriously doubt that any convictions would be forthcoming. I'd also bet that there will be plenty of people stepping up to help them pay their legal bills.
(I'm also racking my brain to imagine what possible crimes the Trump mob could charge them with.)

(3,501 posts)I get Joe is a rule of law guy at his heart and by not intervening on Hunter's behalf before is duly noted that Joe was stand up. If you had been reelected, maybe let it play out. But not now.

(4,865 posts)The so called honorable way is no longer the sane and safe way. Times have changed. Im glad Joe had realized that.
When you look at the cronies that trump pardoned then this should be fine. And one was his daughters FIL and now he gave him an ambassadorship. A pardon for Hunter is fine with me.

(2,103 posts)Goddam I hope he pardons Hunter. And I hope he issues pre-emptive pardons for (1) everyone who had anything to do with the Jan 6 committee, (2) Jack Smith and his entire crew, (3) Pelosi, Schumer, and all other prominent Democrats, (4) himself and his staff, (5) VP Harris and her staff, (6) all his cabinet members especially Garland and DHS Secty as well as FBI Director, Dr, Faucy, . . . anyone I left out?
And I hope Trump chokes on it and falls dead!!!!

(34,204 posts)I get it. It happens and Hunter was political football, but it wasnt like he didnt do what he was accused of.
In general, Ive not liked the way Joe and party handlers handled the Hunter Biden problem, but it will soon be water under the bridge as we deal with much bigger issues.

(2,749 posts)But it bothers me more when a 34x convicted felon, a sexaul assaulter and insurrectionist who stole classified US nuclear secrets not only gets away with it, but gets rewarded with the most powerful position in the world.
Hunter Biden was the real witch hunt.

(5,713 posts)Lots of other people need pardons as well. If it can be done in advance of possible charges. You dont know how bad things are going to get here and you have a lunatic who is out for revenge. However if things deteriorate a lot even a pardon wont be enough.
