Are you spending hours scrolling mindlessly on Instagram reels and TikTok? If so, you might be suffering from brain rot, which has become the Oxford word of the year.
Snip...

What is brain rot?
Brain rot is defined as the supposed deterioration of a person's mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of material considered to be trivial or unchallenging,

The first recorded use of brain rot dates much before the creation of the internet - it was written down in 1854 by Henry David Thoreau in his book Walden.

He criticises society's tendency to devalue complex ideas and how this is part of a general decline in mental and intellectual effort.

there was 9 other people besides myself and everyone of them was lost in phone heaven so much so
that the nurse had to call out names several times to get their attention.

I looked at my phone in my shirt pocket and wondered what in the world I was missing out on and
decided not one damn thing. I'd rather talk to a stranger in a waiting room than text one.

I agree with you. Most of the time when I glance over in public, people are scrolling through some form of social media or messaging app.

But I would probably die of boredom without my phone. Always have to be reading. I have the Kindle app for books, and then I share bookmarks on Firefox between my PC and phone so I always have a reading list for when I'm caught out waiting somewhere.

In the before times, if I knew I had to wait somewhere like an airport or doctor's office, I'd always have a book along. Those are some prime reading times, because you're kind of captive for an unbroken period.

But one Brain Dead MF thinks he was born to destroy America. His chief weapons are fear and hate. And, thanks to corrupt mass media, they have been largely effective.

The solution is an honest and free press — and an energized, activated and informed citizenry.

Down with Corporate McPravda.
