Isn't that the duty of Congress?
They are calling it the "Department of Government Efficiency".
It is nothing more than a scam to enrich themselves with DOGEcoins and steal everything they can get their greedy fingers on.

(195 posts)Executive branch can run itself by organizing however they see fit. All ABC agencies (outside the AEC or now DOE) exist by executive fiat alone as a means to end for the mass-execution of executive authority.
There doesn't have to be an FBI or a DOJ, POTUS just uses those agencies to exercise their power easier

Truman signed the McMahon/Atomic Energy Act on August 1, 1946, transferring the control of atomic energy from military to civilian hands, effective on January 1, 1947.[3] This shift gave the members of the AEC complete control of the plants, laboratories, equipment, and personnel assembled during the war to produce the atomic bomb.[4]"

Yeah, court battles and much wailing are inevitable, but he plans to push for everything he can get
and he will win some of the battles. (See: SCOTUS 6 cronies

Defund the Pentagon and let the states manage (and pay for) their own military defence.
That is also Putler's wet dream. Let the red crazies in North Dakota and Montana pay to maintain nukes silos?
Imagine the chaos and confusion resulting in a sudden (also illegal) Russian invasion...

It's not a department with staff.
About two weeks ago, Musk sent an X tweet asking for resumes from people willing to work 80 hours for free on this.

I have no doubt Elon can get people to volunteer to work on DOGE spreadsheets.

(44,961 posts)There are over 1000 federal "advisory boards". Some are established legislatively, some by delegated authority from a government agency, and some by presidential order.

(1,550 posts)It's not a department or agency or part of government. Musk is not in the government and has not been appointed to anything.
None of his ideas are new or different from what Trump's nominees and the rest of the GOP have been pushing decades.
The press in traditional and social media have been tripping over themselves to grant legitimacy and authority to DOGE, accepting the marketing premise that DOGE is a (pseudo) governmental organization. It's worked so well that you apparently believe it. Nobody is required to play along with the idea of DOGE. You are allowed to say that it is an outside advocacy group, no different than the hundreds of advocacy groups that already exist.

(4,121 posts)Any new Department must be approved by Congress. The last one was the Department of Homeland Security in 2002.
From Wikipedia:
Department of Government Efficiency, proposed by President-elect Donald Trump. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will be heading the department. It has been decided that it will function as a presidential advisory commission rather than a federal executive department.
