Applegrove: Ever since Burger King came out with creepy Burger King character on tv ads have increasingly gone for disgust to sell product (good feeling are probably overdone in ads and lose their effectiveness, bad feelings assure the product name will be remembered. Think Skittles ads with a rasta man milking a giraffe who is eating a rainbow or a red haired doughed teenage boy (just a description of the boy so you'll remember the ad) getting Skittlepox and a teenage girl pulling one skittle off his skin (does she eat it - I can't remember)). Maybe those progressive ads we see and love are meant to impress and disgust different populations at the same time. I see and and and think great mixed race couples are being normalized. A racist sees the same ad and thinks fuck this mixed race couples are being normalized. Works for gay couples and drag queens in ads too. I'm sure other issues. Does this lead to a backlash in voters as well as happy people who are thrilled to vote Democrat? A backlash of rural voters who otherwise would not see how fast the world is changing? Would the marketing departments at big businesses know this? I think so. Don't know what's to be done.
