Gov. Greg Abbott threatens to defund children's hospital

In a now-deleted TikTok video, Tony Pastor, a doctor at Texas’s Children’s Hospital, urged Texas patients not to disclose their citizenship status at the hospital. Although the video was deleted, it has continued to circulate on TikTok from those who recorded it. In the video, Pastor explains Abbott’s new policy, noting that patients get an intake form in which they will be asked about their citizenship. He stated that the order “Has made all of us physicians and healthcare providers super uncomfortable,” especially since doctors are unsure what will be done with that information. Pastor stated, “I worry that this information is going to be used to deport people.”

However, he claimed something that people aren’t being told is that they don’t actually have to answer the intake question. As a result, he proposed that no one answer the question when they come to the hospital as a way to mess with the data.

However, Abbott responded by issuing a public threat on X to defund the children’s hospital unless it has “crystal clear records.” He warned that “there will be consequences for failing to follow the law in the Executive Order.”

Accidents, disease, and life-threatening situations don't care about your "citizenship".

Physicians and other Health Care workers are obligated to treat you to the best of their ability. There is no "Executive Order" that can override HIPPA or the conscience and obligation of healthcare workers.

If the Feds cut off all funding to TX, the state would be dead in 24 hours. Just cutting off the military expenditures, NASA, and a host of other aspects, to include ports of entry and anything under NSI would turn TX into a dustbowl. No FEMA, no oil subsidies, no farm subsidies, no aid to health care, medicaid/medicare. The list goes on, and on, and on.

DJT will ensure TX survives when he takes office, but in all honesty, who would want to live in a state where humans are expendable?

I am of German, English, and Dutch heritage. No one would question my citizenship, unless I walk into an ER with a heavy German accent (even then I doubt I would be challenged as I'm white).

Abbott is cruelty on wheels, condemning people to lives of misery, then smiling about it as if he did something "Grand".

Texas Children's Hospital is affiliated with the Baylor College of Medicine and though it is no longer directly affiliated with Baylor University, it is a private, medical college. There's nothing Abbott can do to its funding.
