Officials have said that no arrests have been made yet and that the investigation is ongoing. Have some thoughts and prayers. That'll work.

How weird....

(3,569 posts)$10,000 is at the upper range of the usual reward.

(3,569 posts)I'm not sure what the formula is for determining the reward number, but I've seen a lot in the $10,000 area. Probably location and manner of the crime come into play, though I'm sure you're also right that this rich, white, out-of-towner CEO is getting some special rate as well (I'm not being facetious; I think he is). That said, most are around $3500.

(19,096 posts)...how often does NYPD immediately put out a publicity campaign on social media and offer a top reward for them?
Prairie Gates
(3,569 posts)The NYPD, like most big city police departments, will usually call press conferences for "newsworthy" crimes, like the brazen murder of a CEO on a Wednesday morning in Midtown Manhattan. If the press is baying for it, they'll set up the podium. You're quite right that they probably don't set up the podium for every shooting in Flushing, Brownsville, Grand Concourse, or even LES.
I understand your point here: that this murder victim is getting special treatment because he's a rich, white, CEO. Yes, surely. I guess I'm just pointing out that the treatment, while special, is not as special as you're making it out to be.

(3,569 posts)That said, I'm surprised that they came out with an amount that high this quickly. To be honest, I don't even know if the reqard amount is related to the Crime Stoppers program. I was just answering the other posters question about whether rewards are offered for other crimes, which they are.

(3,569 posts)I've already agreed with some of your points above, though I do think you're overstating things. I'll leave you to it. Have a good one. Don't forget to still come into the city for the tree lighting.
