US Senate confirms Anthony Brindisi to federal judge's post in Central New York

Washington – The U.S. Senate on Wednesday voted along party lines to approve former Rep. Anthony Brindisi for a lifetime appointment as a federal judge based in Utica

The Democratic-controlled Senate confirmed President Joe Biden’s appointment of Brindisi by a 50-49 vote, the first of two judicial nominees for Central New York to be considered in a confirmation vote Wednesday.

Senate Republicans voted unanimously against Brindisi’s confirmation. Only one senator, Kyrsten Sinema, an independent from Arizona who usually votes with Democrats, missed the vote.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., has been rushing to try to confirm about a dozen judicial nominees before Republicans gain majority control of the Senate in January.
