Jeff Bezos goes MAGA as Amazon billionaire gushes over 'calmer, more confident' president-elect and pledges to 'help him' in second termhttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14160141/Jeff-Bezos-MAGA-Amazon-gushes-Trump.html
The Amazon founder was often seen as antagonistic toward Trump during his first go around in the White House.
However, Bezos expressed some excitement about potential regulatory cutbacks in the coming years.
'I'm actually very optimistic this time around,' Bezos said on stage during a wide-ranging interview at a conference in New York.
'He seems to have a lot of energy around reducing regulation. If I can help do that, I´m going to help him.'
'We do have too many regulations in this country,' Bezos added.

(48,847 posts)Most of my high ticket items were front-loaded in the month of November. But there are certain things that I purchase from Amazon on a regular basis, that I could find elsewhere. Things like a special kind of Ramen noodle, or vitamins, or mop replacements and other cleaning items. This is also near Christmas time and I'm finding similar or same choices nearby, many of the items that I haven't purchased yet..
But probably the biggest expensive saver, is talking myself out of purchasing gadgets. I really don't need bells and whistles. Mostly I purchase electronics to satisfy my curiosity. Helps me stay connected with what is going on with the young-uns.

We know there is no rule of law when it comes to wealthy white males.
Who commit crimes or do wrong.
The fact that this man caused the death and suffering of many people
and all of it was legal does not sit right with many.
So now we are left with only street justice.
Which is a sad commentary on our society but completely understandable.

Giving up Amazon will be hard for me, but necessary. I wish we could just run it out of business. Any chance of getting half the country to stop using it? Any replacement in the works, like Blue Sky for Twitter? Seriously, a billionaire out there to run on same business model to appeal to voters who don't want to support Nazis?

(34,560 posts)From her wiki page..."In May 2019, Scott signed the Giving Pledge, a charitable-giving campaign in which she undertook to give away most of her wealth to charity over her lifetime or in her will. Despite its name, the pledge is not legally binding.[33]
In a July 2020 Medium post,[34] Scott announced that she had donated $1.7 billion to 116 non-profit organizations, with a focus on racial equality, LGBTQ+ equality, democracy, and climate change.[35] Her gifts to HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, tribal colleges and universities, and other colleges surpass $800 million.[36][37] In December 2020, less than six months later, Scott stated that she had donated a further $4.15 billion in the previous four months to 384 organizations, with a focus on providing support to people affected by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and addressing long-term systemic inequities.[38] She said that after July, she wanted her advisory team to give her wealth away faster as the United States struggled with the unprecedented impact of COVID-19 while billionaires' wealth continued to climb. Her team's focus was on "identifying organizations with strong leadership teams and results, with special attention to those operating in communities facing high projected food insecurity, high measures of racial inequity, high local poverty rates, and low access to philanthropic capital."[39] Scott's 2020 charitable giving totaled $5.8 billion, one of the largest annual distributions by a private individual to working charities.[40][11]
Scott announced another $2.7 billion in giving to 286 organizations in June 2021.[41] Forbes reported that Scott donated $8.5 billion across 780 organizations in one year (July 2020 to July 2021).[42] In June 2021, Scott and Melinda French Gates launched the Equality Can't Wait Challenge, a contest to promote gender equality[43] and expanding women's power and influence in the United States by 2030.[44] The four winners received $10 million each, and an additional $8 million was split between the two finalists.[43] In February 2022, nine organizations announced gifts from Scott totaling $264.5 million.[45] The Association for Women's Rights in Development received a $15 million donation.[46] On March 23, 2022, more gifts were announced, including $436 million to Habitat for Humanity[47] and $275 million to Planned Parenthood.[48][49] In May 2022, the Big Brothers, Big Sisters foundation reported a $122.6 million donation from Scott.[50] Scott has also made donations to organizations in Kenya, India, Brazil, Micronesia, and Latin America.[51] In April 2022, The New York Times reported that Scott's donations since 2019 have exceeded $12 billion.[15] In September 2022, Scott donated two of her Beverly Hills homes, worth a combined $55 million, to the California Community Foundation (CCF), which provides grants to mission-based nonprofits in Los Angeles. The organization intended to sell both homes and use 90% of the earnings to fund affordable housing initiatives and direct the other 10% to an immigrant integration program.[52] In October 2022, Scott donated $84.5 million to Girl Scouts of the USA and its 29 local councils. This was the largest donation from an individual in the organizations history.[53] As of November 2022, Scott had donated almost $14 billion to 1500 organizations.[14]

(2,273 posts)Without democracy she is arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Without some ethical LW people owning media--from radio to local to TV stations like MSNBC--there will be no democracy. Maybe buy the Washington Post and return it to it's old self? If Bezos doesn't have Machiavallian schemes for it.
I don't mean to denigrate how impressive her giving has been, and It wasn't clear until this year how vulnerable democracy has become.
But man, everything she is supporting depends on this.

(39,206 posts)to convince you. I can come up with more info, but on the day-to-day, so can you, if you care to make the effort.
In-house party struggles are what have caused voters to lost trust in this party. And us to lose trust with each other and some of our leaders, for that matter.
But if Democrats want to strengthen the fight for democracy, Democrats have to ally with each other at all income levels, and not just ego/doubt based "in" or "out" categories, and no tired, outworn purity tests.
We on DU should start from this premise: Democrats at all socioeconomic levels are the only party that stands as a bulwark for democracy.

colleges (both traditional and right wing ones like Hillsdale), funding of right wing hate talk radio/tv/social media, disinformation campaigns that can make sentient human beings deny reality, allowing Russia to become a player in our democracy, and bringing in billions from all kinds of places such as the fossil fuel industries. All the time helping out right wing Christo Fascist Evangelicals and right wing web sites which are just the mouth pieces for Russian propaganda (storm 1516 ) and disinformation like how men and manhood is under attack.
Meanwhile salt water is working its way north up the Mississippi, the Delaware River has salt
water almost up to Philadelphia, and hundreds of acres of the cedar forests in New Jersey are
dying from the salinity of encroaching sea water. Funny thing when you melt our polar ice caps

actions and green energy for which the fossil fuel industries will pay him billions.

Don't just think about it, cancel your Amazon Prime.
That's the low hanging fruit. Then we need to see about bankrupting Amazon by convincing half the country to boycott.

(2,273 posts)they want the food they eat not to poison them. They don't remember that food wasn't always safe, before regulations.
Like when Teddy Roosevelt had a bunch of meat-packing moguls for dinner where his spies revealed the diseases and filth they had found in meat processed in their plants--just as he served them all steak. Which suddenly they didn't want to eat.
Roosevelt's inspections were inspired by Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle." Oh, Sinclair was a Socialist.
Trumpers don't know history and take it for granted that their food is safe.

What companies does Jeff Bezos own? Bezos stepped down as CEO of Amazon to become executive chairman in 2021, and he owns less than 10% of the company. After divorcing his wife MacKenzie of 25 years in 2019, Bezos transferred a quarter of his then-16% Amazon stake to her, Forbes reported.6 days ago

(7,267 posts)The game is way far too tilted in favor of the ultra rich.
For instance, we need regulations on campaign contributions to keep people like you from using money to wedge themselves into government.
Elon Musk literally bought himself a "fake" government agency with his 120 million dollar (at least) contribution to the Trump campaign.
Citizens United may very well be the worst decision ever by our Supreme Court; even worse than the repeal of Roe/Wade.
It opened the door to corruption in government on a grand scale, and lead to the demise of the Republican Party as a legitimate standard bearer of Conservative politics.
Without it, Trump may never have gotten a chance to become President, and not have been able to stack the SC with judges who would destroy Roe/Wade.
The rich saw his potential as a destroyer of the Regulatory Agencies, and as a major gift giver in the form or massive tax breaks, so they helped him get in for their own selfish purposes.
Unfortunately for them, they could find themselves as his servants, just like the Oligarchs in Russia.
Hint to people like Bezos, Musk, and Zuckerman: Make sure none of your office windows can be opened, and they are super resistant to breakage. You never know when you could fall through one if Trump takes the country to the dark places he wants it to go to.

(563 posts)Sometimes its hard. I dont use prime or any of the accelerated programs for delivery, but som items are difficult to buy locally. Ive been using eBay or Etsy for a lot of things I used to buy on Amazon. I dont know if thats any better. Right now Im trying to set up a grow area in my living room, with grow lights for spouts and tomatoes and greens and starting seeds next spring.
Im going to put up a chicken house and a yard with garden beds next to it. Im also going to clear some space down in my woods for growing some cotton. Ive bought colored cotton seeds and have wanted to learn spin cotton for years, wool is easy, silk a little harder, but cotton has such short fibers, its a whole other thing. I got green, brown and reddish seeds for cotton. No dyes needed, just a lot of time and seed saving. In my own way Im preparing for a more difficult time.
