summary: airport employee paid as informant would notify DEA of people who booked last minute tickets.... only on that info, DEA would swoop down to take their cash. Most seemed to be males within a certain age range... 30 to 40.
the airport informant would get a cut of the cash seized.

(3,729 posts)When going overseas if you have over $10,000 you must declare it or it can be seized. Not by dea agents but by customs. You have a chance of getting it back a few months later if you can prove you made it legally.
Orin Kerr a lawyer who posts on Bluesky was posting about the same thing as the news article in the last week or so. I think he has been involved in some of the lawsuits.
You can bring over more than $10,000 as long as you declare it. The main thing to always remember is declare money and anything you buy overseas when bringing it back. We never really brought a whole lot back. But we would keep it in one suitcase and in easy to retrieve bags. Just makes it faster at customs.

(1,514 posts)... of a leg-hold trap. Totally innocent people caught in a blatantly unconstitutional scheme. But Civil Asset Forfeiture doesn't seem to be completely banned. Local and state police have been shaking people down in highway robberies ever since the Orange Gargoyle took office in 2016 and rescinded Obama's total ban on the practice. The policy's defenders have been wiping their asses with the 4th Amendment ever since. It is LONG past time for that obscenely unconstitutional law to be beaten into a puddle of blood and bone with prejudice.
